Hello everyone,
I have been wondering since i got my car, what is the workimg temp of 197? Mine is at 65 degrees centigrade on highway, seems to me lile thermostat is not working( fully open).
We had this discussion in our German forums not that long ago. From what I got the standard thermostat is opening at 75°C. Some people have switched to other original Renault ones with 83 or 90 degrees.
Here are the part numbers for the respective thermostats:
Should sit on or just under the third line on the temp gauge. If it goes down when you're driving and back up at stand still, you have a failed thermostat and need to replace. it's a simple job, ~30 minutes at most.
It is stuck full open there is no doubt about it. I was just wondering what is the normal temp whith working thermostat. I bought genuine one not the lower temp one. I donct like negine running to cold
All clio 197/200 have 75deg thermostat from factory (afaik). Some people have fitted the higher temp stats without issue but others have agreed the 75deg stat must have been fitted for a reason, likely because were close to 200bhp out of a N/A 4cyl engine and it requires a lower temp stat to keep temps where they need to be.
Up to you what you decide to fit in your car, though!
I doubt the car is "running too cool" with the 75° one. Mine is hot when I leave the parking lot after having it pulled out of the garage already. The heat that comes out of the engine bay is above anything I've experienced with other cars even after normal driving.
From what I got the 83/90° thermostats only get used by people who have dedicated track tools here. I'd refrain from using anything than the 75° one.

But, the car stays at a constant "warm" temperature when you drive it very hard. On a standard(ish) engine it does not overheat after a few laps on track.

Here is a temperature reading thread the second page has a picture with the exact temperatures from the diagnostics info marked on the picture hope it helps someone. I have noticed that on some cars that I have fixed the oil cooler when the oil filter has been over tightened it turns the oil cooler and can kink the water hoses but I guess would cause over heating issues but worth checking just remove the 1st stage air intake tube and you can see how it is, the pipes should be at the 2 and 3 o'clock position.
But my temperature now is 65, isn't that low? With working thermostat it should keep 75 all the time if i am correct. That is why i want to replace thermostat, not to get warmer coolant but to keep it at 75 working temp all the time
