Well after lingering on here for a while, and following a good few progress threads, I thought it was about time I started one for my current build, discussion with @sevenfourate , @kevlar and a few others also intimated that they keen to see more of the car!

I'm not new to Clio's, but have spent most of my time on Cliosport.net, where this project thread and one for my previous build of a 100% track focused Trophy can also be found. The Trophy, whilst a full out track project (not every ones cup of tea due to its rarity) and my previous car history and concourse cars, means what ever i build has to look a little special as well as go well!

I think it was a success and it certainly had a good followers on the forum and at track! so a few photos below of the Trophy on the day I sold her. Miss this car a lot and a part of me wishes I had never sold her, but no point in looking back now!

Anyway, this thread is all about the 200! The plan was actually to get something that would be the best of both this time, something that I could take out for a weekend blast, something that would look well at a show and shine competition and something that could be a track day animal if needed! So here is the new toy!

IMG_5885.JPG IMG_5891.JPG

I learned a massive lesson with the Trophy on how to lose money!!!! as when you build it and take it to an extreme spec, someone else benefits when you sell. So with this in mind I bought the car with most of the work completed.

The good thing is the guy who owned and built it (a Renault technician, using Renaults ramps), was the first owner of the car and it was only owned for a very short time by a friend of mine before i got her. So a full history and a completely no expense spared build!!

I'm currently in the middle of upgrading things further and will be for the next little while, but below gives you a understanding of the current spec, which includes changes I have made as well.

and of course as I'm a Valentino Rossi fan the must have 46 sticker, as I'm sure Syer will agree!!

The car is going to remain in Clubsport spec, as I believe that it gives me the best of both worlds just now!

I do like photos, as they generally save a lot of typing and i'll let you see the updates / upgrades I have carried out, but at least the first post gets the ball rolling!

more to follow................

Great car. Amazing spec. Congrats.

Not sure where you're going from here?! but get some more photos up as you go.

will do mate, its not so much where its going, but refining what is there! hopefully the photos and updates shall explain

FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC ! (Cheers for tagging me in)

So glad you've started a thread. For you - and more to the point; everyone else here who now gets to see this car. It's waaaaaaaaaaay too good to be hidden away unannounced. If you've got it - flaunt it right....

To be honest i'm not even sure - as good as they are - your pics do it full justice !!

Epic spec, super clean, trick parts, pretty unique in a few areas and a visual delight. And your attention to detail and perfectionist mentality shines through. Literally. Can you tell i'm a fan yet ? :sunglasses:

The only thing i'd be interested in personally is some pics of the rear / stripping out / interior. "Considering" going the Clubsport route if mine isn't my daily much longer.

Looking forward to progress / updates / further post's already.

EPIC :french:

Ok so a summary of the refinements thus far!

The car had after market window tints and since I'm not a fan of the halo effect that this gives on the rear and rear quarter windows then it had to come out. Not to start upset with anyone, as I know tastes vary, if it had the factory privacy glass then it would have remained but aftermarket to me is a no no! I think AG works without the tints so i'm happy now!

When I got her she only has the rear half of the safety devices cage and since safety is paramount for me it needed to have the full thing, but this again has to look discrete or factory. So after a quick call to Mark Fish, the front half of the cage arrived. biggest thing with this meant that the glove box lid needs cut to accommodate, as well as the carpets and mats, but i think i pulled it off! glove box, cut, removed part cut & re packed and fixed into place and the good thing is that its easily replaced of the cage ever comes out!

IMG_8641.JPG IMG_8643.JPG IMG_8642.JPG

Next were the seats, whilst i loved the look of the Cobreau Clubsport seat, with the adjustable sliders, they just flexed a bit too much on track, so these were changed out for the Sparco Circuit 2 seats with fixed mounts, which are a great track upgrade

Thanks mate

As far as clubsport goes, i actually had thought at first about making her a full show and shine car so have a full interior to go back in if i want to! Your right the photos of the AG don't do her justice, as the ones for the Trophy didn't!

Interior wise, I actually have lots of brand new trim parts from Renault, as well as the rear seats and quarter panels. I had a good set of yellow dot Recaro's too, which i resold on here to get the Sparco track seats.

Will keep you updated and shall add on the rear interior photos of how she currently is, but i do think that the rear quarter panels and boot plastics should go back in

Wow what a spec!

That trophy looks immense also, bravo for going through with that!

Looks a really stunning car!

Thanks,

As noted, i really miss the Trophy and as far as track Clio's go it was very well set up. The AG, whilst great handling, is just too heavy to compete even with the power it has, but it is a completely different thing to be fair. It may develop into full track yet, but if that was the plan it maybe that the AG is sold as it seems a shame to commit it fully to track given its usability and condition.

THAT is the 'battle' isnt it. How far do you go with the stripping.

Full on everything out, excess wiring stripped etc and difficult / costly to rectify ? A halfway house to get the look and save 'some' weight; or just remove seats, parcel-shelf etc, lob in a brace-bar and a rear carpet possibly and have it all easily able to be put back to stock if needed while looking bare - not 'race'.........

Hence i was interested in how far you'd gone. So far

As noted earlier, safety is paramount on track, so an extinguisher system was a must. In the Trophy i had opted for the basic lifeline system with the pull cords but in this, as the car has a meg spec and no expense spared i opted for the full electronic system. Again this had to be discrete, so i came up with the following plan:

Bottle, wouldn't quite fit behind the passengers seat, and there is something nice about seeing it to:
IMG_6270.JPG
Pipe and cabling held in place with velcro tie straps:
IMG_6273.JPG
Engine bay nozzle aimed at injectors:
IMG_6277.JPG
External push button wired in ( i like things neat )
IMG_6280.JPG
External push button as neat as it could be:IMG_6282.JPG
Drivers nozzle:
IMG_6289.JPG
Internal activation button. Stereo removed & Banking plate implemented to save destroying the main part of the
dash:
IMG_6371.JPG
Activation unit mounted inside the glove box so no one sees it:IMG_6375.JPG

so as it goes safety first and all as neat as i could make it!

Minor update with this one.

As things have to be correct, the gear stick gator had to be replaced as it it had a hole in it and i'm not a real fan of the original grey PVC item:

img_5901-jpg.jpg

So after persevering with removing the staples and reinstating:
img_5909-jpg.jpg

Turned the stitching so you could actually see it in the car:
img_5914-jpg.jpg

As a note these may be out of sequence of when i did the modifications, as the build thread started nearly a year ago on Cliosport.

externally this time........

Roof wrap was on the car when i bought her, so to make her a little different from the norm and as i do like a little roof sticker (see the Trophy) I wanted to add a little something! i was also a fan of the concept RS16, but felt the side diamonds maybe a little too much for keeping it subtle

So with a charcoal enhancement that on a dull day you don't see and in bright sun the silver pearl in the charcoal makes it stand out..... if you walk past the car you don't know the RS writing is there....

IMG_6107.JPG

IMG_6109.JPG

This photo gives you a better idea of how subtle it is, you lose the front half and that's intentionally looking at it..... I'm thinking black seems the work on Renaults.... just need to convince Mr @LOCKE

Pinching updates from the Cliosport thread now.......... pretty much when i first bought her and before i started proper cleaning & detailing, but thinks need to be clean even the bits you cant see.......

As cleanliness is a must, I thought I would give the front arches a clean up..... didn't get time to get the steamer out, but got the wheels off, foamed and degreased everything, checked calliper bolts, re locktited the wheel studs, copper lubed the necessary parts and then re built (both sides).....

img_5846-jpg.jpg

img_5847-jpg.jpg

img_5849-jpg.jpg

Will spend a bit more time cleaning the alloy / cast parts when I have a little longer and a bit more light, but happy now that brakes, suspension components and studs have been checked over and set

Both back wheels off, thourough clean under the rear arches, stud check & locktite, lubricate of all strut adjusters and of course a wheel clean inside and out.... no surprises and peace of mind with the check over

Need to do the same to the front so if I can steal a few hours later in the week, and the weather on my side, that will get the last of the mechanical checks completed.....

img_5830-jpg.jpgimg_5831-jpg.jpgimg_5832-jpg.jpgimg_5834-jpg.jpg

Set the adjusters similar to the Trophy set up for KNOCKHILL, but that really was a guess until I get her out on track. Impressed with how well the Gaz Golds are holding up, as I'm so used to the AST quality, only wish the adjusters on the front were more acccessible (they can be reached when it's on full lock which is a help), but i am still thinking that AST's will be the next upgrade!

More to follow.....

Up early and cracked on..... coming along nicely:up:. Paused for a break so thought I'd post a mid way update;

Drain tubes removed (drivers choked, passengers spotless)..... anyway, everything cleaned and built back up

img_5743-jpg.jpg
img_5744-jpg.jpg
img_5745-jpg.jpg
img_5746-jpg.jpg

So next was told start underneath..... happy with progress....

Box and sump have been coated during original build, so white hoses green sump and black box.... now all shiny again

img_5739-jpg.jpg
So I decided to move into the floor pan next and that's coming along nicely too

img_5753-jpg.jpg
img_5747-jpg.jpg
I'll get the side skirts cleaned up properly as part of the main clean of the car.

Lower engine cover cleaned as well

img_5754-jpg.jpg

so now build her back back up and get her reversed on the ramps to start the rear :monkey:

As i say, cleanliness is a must for me and if nothing else it lets you see if anythings leaking!

More to follow.....

Those wheel arches are spotless!

Shame they will get covered in sh*t as soon as it's driven :pensive:

Another update from Cliosport and I think this pretty much brings me up to date with where the car is now......... as a note @sevenfourate , @kevlar & @LOCKE this photo gain shows how the roof sticker vanishes until you are actually above the roof.

Anyway this post was just an update after a clean! no surprise that it needed a dust off after doing very little so a full wash, polish & detail was on the cards!

img_8103-jpg.jpg

Anyway, looking a little better now and I had the rest of the afternoon to kill, so wheels off and I managed to tie the front Alcon callipers in with the rear. I'm not a fan of the red callipers with the AG paint, but since they are the option that comes with the pack I didn't want to paint them silver.... so I picked out some of the Alcon detailing on the front and made that red to keep the theme going.....

img_8105-jpg.jpg

Well, that was last weekend when the weather meant working on the car was fun! This weekend not so much!! But as things need to be done in advance of the 24th August track night I had to get a move on and fit the oil cooler..... simple task you may think but under an engine bay that already has supercharger & cooler, intercooler and no room to swing a cat, it was a challenge!! Anyway, bumper off and start looking for a suitable location..... anyway, this is how it ended up, all in, working and no issues at all .... went for the largest oil cooler I could get in the space available, so a 19 row SETRAB / MOCAL set up was ordered, also had to remove the aircon pipes to allow the sandwich plate set up to fit and obviously radiator out a well as it's no use without the pipe work! So all snug, bumper on and with the fogs out I have direct air straight in to the cooler
Insect mesh installed meantime to stop any stones making short work of the cooler, but I'm on the hunt for bigger mesh to let a little more air through, but this gives the required protection at the minute!

img_8209-jpg.jpg

img_8205-jpg.jpg

img_8208-jpg.jpg

img_8207-jpg.jpg

img_8210-jpg.jpg

img_8217-jpg.jpg

Of course, full oil and filter change as well !

Those wheel arches are spotless!

Shame they will get covered in sh*t as soon as it's driven :pensive:
ha, it actually only gets used on track and generally on dry days, not a fan of wet for no other reason than some one could slide into you......... car has only covered 100 miles or so this year so it stays pretty clean.....

Well that brings me up to date, other than the 24th August track night, which led to my post for advice re the exhaust / manifold! the manifold cracked above and below the flexi, so a change is a must!

The car its self is rather different and possibly a little bit special due to its mods. Biggest aim for me is keeping it as subtle / oem looking as i can so the exhaust change is a big thing for me. With the Trophy, I had a scorprion with decat and the car was very quite and all of its noise came from the engine / ITB set up, which was just amazing, no other way to describe it

The AG is different. I keep referring to it as subtle, well as subtle as it can be being bright green! but all that really does change when you start her up. The best way to describe her at that point is EVIL. The Ktec exhaust sounds beefy, the supercharger just hisses and whines & the result is deafening! the car spits flames on track at every up-change and really does go well, so to alter this is a big step.................. but in an effort to make her louder, god knows why, i have opted to go for the full PMS manifold & race straight through system, so this can only get wilder!! a point to note is a centre box can be added if it needs to go on road.

little bit upset its not as pretty as the 182 manifold they provide, but that really only worked with ITBs, but the quality will be there and no more flexis to worry about. Nick has advised me that this will be loud with the charger pushing through it so here's hoping....... anyway its getting made at the minute so i'll update you as soon as its here and ready to fit. i have the heat wrap & new exhaust rubbers coming to just to keep everything right!
