Jesus! About 8 years ago I wrote off a car hitting a wall in the snow at about 10mph, so as you say looks like you got away lightly.

Yeah that juddering of the pedal when the ABS kicks in, knowing you're going to crash and there's nothing you can do about it... not something I want to repeat!

Agreed mate, well described.
If I was speeding for the conditions, I deserve it, but I was actually driving really sensibly, this is the first car i've never had winter tyres on, now I am 100% getting some for these wheels!

It was out my control, i'm not even hurt, just my pride and wallet really, just means some mods will have to wait, but I was actually in a better attitude than I thought I would be lol.

So ordered Brembo disc and pads off George Snee @ RTRP, hopefully pick up the bits from Lee who is breaking a Clio 197 tomorrow also, so then I can have a look at the damage and go from there.

Your lucky the side impact airbags did not go off, if your doing the winter tyre thing make sure you put all 4 on the first time in this country I used snow tyres I went up the road the car got stuck so went straight home changed to the front snow tyres went straight back to the same spot 30 minutes later a bit of wheel spin but they worked so on the way back small road slight crest knew the conditions no problem it was as if I pulled the handbrake right round going backwards off to the left hand side of the road which had been cleared for a new entrance to a house or something but a 15ft drop into a river I got it stopped about 3 ft from the drop off by getting the car into 1st and flooring it while going backwards after that it was 4 snow tyres or nothing.


All this was not there thank god or it would have been wrapped around the car

Thanks, yep I don't see the point of putting only 2 winters on, i've always had 4, I even have 4 wheels off my BMW 740iL in the shed with winters on haha.

Thanks Pavanator, yeah so all good in that respect, today i'll find out what's really broke lol.

So ordered yesterday at 3pm from George Snee @ RTRP, came today at 9am....HOW? Magic!

Picking up parts today after work, then I am gonna jack up the car and see how it get's along.

Always hurts to see a picture like that, especially when you've had a similar experience...

Caught my 'snow crash' on dash cam:

Road was totally gritted and clear, then sudden sheet ice on the crest of the bridge. ABS instantly kicked in and just under steered into the curb. Cost about £1500 to fix

There was a BMW E45 following us who went into the curb at about twice the speed and took out a fence and road sign. His airbags went off too...

Yep you are literally a passenger aren't you? Cannot do anything as you're just sliding.

I'm glad you got it sorted mate, like me yours could have been worse too, but either way it's horrible to see

The feeling really is horrible, being totally helpless and seeing the crash coming....

Think I've learned my lesson with driving on country roads in the snow though...

We have a large bridge you cross before joining the A road everyone local knows about it and the amount of people that slide on and across the A road and down the bank and through the fence is quite high you have to remember that a bridge can freeze quicker that a normal road especially a thinner concrete modern bridge because the air cools it from above and below so ice can form quicker and rain can instantly freeze when it hits it because it can be cooler than the normal road surface.

What was strange for my crash was that one half of the bridge was gritted and clear, but the other half was ungritted and sheet ice...

I went over first, had my fight with the curb. Then the BMW came over and took out the fence/sign, then a little puma came over and went into the BMW...

We got the bmw out and heard another car coming only to see a landrover defender coming over the bridge literally sideways

We had to send someone over the bridge to slow people down and even then there were a few close calls when people didn't realise quite how bad it was...

Lol, it wasn't down to my lack of knowledge / car maintenance, I have worked on cars since I was little, built a few track cars, it's more lack of space and equipment now, I used to have a unit I rented for my track cars, but now I have just my driveway

I like to do most of the work as I am OCD, i'm one of those nerds checking torques on everything haha, helps with my work too though.

Good to hear mate, i'm still not talking to you, for getting the Exige hehe, so jealous

No point moaning is there, yes it is annoying, but I wasn't injured, just my wallet is (and more to come haha). It'll be back soon, as it's my 75mile a day daily.


In other news, ordered trackrod inner and end from Paul @renaultpartsdirect , ready to go with the car.

Also getting TRW droplinks and anti-rotation link, they look straight, but i'm doing the whole lot to be sure.
