a couple of times over the past few weeks the car has made a strange noise on start up, all most sounds like a diesel starting up.
did it a few weeks ago but i just put it down to 1 off but it did it againthis morning.
no pattern to when it does it.

any ideas.?

the car is 4 years old and due a service.coould it be something to do with the spark plugs.?

i get this every now and then, had it looked out and couldnt find anything

couple of things spring to mind -

starter motor on its way out - stays in mesh when the engine starts
vvt system playing up - if it goes wrong they usually sound rough

i'm getting my engine convestion soon, so i dont care lol

I'd start with the plugs Jase, it's the cheapest place to start and they need changing any way don't they. I certainly wouldn't go spending big bucks to start with and it won't do any harm anyway! Lol!

yeah a interim service and see if the problem persists of it does get it on a diagnostic machine.

sounds like a dephaser pulley to me jase, its the vvt pulley it can cause a diesel like noise on start up, is it only the first start? or everytime you start it?

the couple of times its done it has been when it has been stood all night or all day.

dont think its the starter motor as it doesnt sound the same as if you were to hold the key round after starting on a key start car.

if it was this what we talking to replace.?

Been reading on cs and everyone seems to say you might as well replace the belt while your there so if that's the case I'd imagine not cheap !

Birchdown will do a cambelt and auxiliary belt change for just over £300 notes. I'd only get something like that done at a specialist to be honest. Too many horror stories over on cs about peoples cambelts snapping after being incorrectly fitted.

I took my 1.2 Clio here and they were good. Got recommended by someone I used to work with who had a 172 that was heavily modified. I know they are quite far from you Jase, but might be worth having a look and giving them a call to get their advice?
