stiff gearbox housing

hi guys,
quick question my gearbox is really slow and stiff when i put shifter into neutral, usually when i move it from left to right it automatically goes back to the centre of the gearbox (neutral) now its slow in returning to the centre whether from the left or right side. does something need oiling?

To me it sounds like a sticky/stiff gear linkage cable although I'm not sure if these have a cable set up, but from that description I'd say if they are on cables check them first hope this helps

disconnect the cables from the top of the box and see if its still stiff - if it is then its a cable or the gear lever bottom joint - if not them its
in the box on the selector mechanism - theres 2 "return" springs on it...
