Starter Motor Removal

Need to change the starter motor. I have looked at how much of a pain in the tits its going to be but if anyone has done it i would love some info please.

Any hints and tips would be great please.

Thank you.

If you can get it off the ground, directly underneath is your best bet. If not, driver’s side wheel off and in through there, you will scratch your hands up and it is tight but it’s doable.

You’ll struggle to get the heat shield on and off with the manifold in place so just keep that in mind. I’ve just wrapped my starter in gold heat reflective tape to stop it cooking it.

FYI I burnt two out with no heat shield so make sure you have some protection on there, cooked the second one within 1 track day.

Can i still remove the starter tho with the heat shield attached. just move it to the side abit?
then fit heat shield to new one before putting it on the car?

iv already got the car up on axle stands as far as possible and am going to take the front beam bit off for better access.
im hoping this solves my issue replacing it tbh.

Couldn’t tell you, never had a heat shield on mine. It’ll be tight but you might be lucky.

Have you sourced one already? The guy from Rotterdam still has his Bosch one I think, brand new. Nearly bought it myself but was in a rush.
