Sideshowfreds Ultra Red 200 -- Fully Caged Track Toy

Yes i'm afraid it is another stripped out Clio. Wasn't the original plan but thinking about how few miles per year I'll be allowed I thought I might as well go the whole hog. Factory Recaros are hopefully going this weekend then I'll get the cage on order and start preparing the interior for a rattle can paint job!

Don't forget to send me those pics and a price for that bar, not getting a cage so I need it for Spa!:thumb:

Will keep an eye open for updates on this one. Good to hear you’re taking it in this direction! Join me for a track day this year!
Hopefully I will have some decent updates soon. A few parts I had line up have fallen through but I've managed to source one of them elsewhere for a steal! Once it's done I will start looking at track days again and I have to say I can't wait to get it back out.

As I'm sat at work doing some overtime and it's quiet I thought I would post some pics of the cars progress from the last few weeks. It's very nearly fully stripped out and the dash is pretty much ready to come out when I get a proper delivery.

Also got my bumper bracket fitted so I can put that back on this weekend as long as it doesn't rain too much.

Then just a little thing, decided I don't need the rear wiper anymore and order a Kill All Wipers delete kit, very good quality item and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get me rid of the rear wiper.

lighter = faster..bet you cant wait to finish it and take it for a spin..
You're not wrong! There is still quite a list of things to do before I can though. The last two being 4 wheel alignment and a new MOT so I can insure it again! If things go to plan though I might be at that stage by the end of April

Been hanging off updates until I had a decent amount to say. Today the car is back on 4 wheels properly with only some serious interior work, alignment and a fresh MOT left to do. First thing I sourced was a fresh set of wheels. For me there was one lying one choice I have ever wanted to go with, Cup Racers. I love these wheels so much and don't think I will ever get rid of them!

The next part to arrive was a bit of a surprise. When I placed the order I was advised 8-10 weeks but only 3 weeks later it was delivered.

Its the R023 cage so a lighter version of the full Michelin Clio Cup spec R019. Main difference is no cross in the main hoop and only a single cross bar for the roof. Other than that it's still a 14 point bolt in and serious bit of kit. Next stage is actually fitting it though and the car requires a bit more modification than I had realised.

Once all the wheels had tyres on them I decided I should really put some fresh rear brakes on. Around this time I also decided a stud and nut kit would be a good addition. I went for the Pure Motorsport kit and it seems like a quality item. Only slight disappointment was I was expecting it to be open ended so I could use an Allen head to tighten them up but it came as a solid ended so locking nuts together has made me wonder if I need two new ones. Brake wise I decided to go for M-tech's. They were a good price and given the rears don't do much anyway I'm sure they will be good enough for now.

This all left me with one thing to sort. I've enquired about so many seats that it was getting silly. After one lead shut completely I thought I had found some options but they all went quiet after a couple of weeks. In the end I made a call to an advert On Racecarsdirect.com. I am over the moon with the seat and what I got with it in the deal. Whilst I was there I also got hold of a pair of tow eyes from the very early MK3 Cup Racers. The front is a bit short but the rear is perfect. So glad I went down this route as I don't think I've ever seen a MK3 in really life with a proper eye out of the back. Needs some paint so still got to decide why colour to go.

So as of today this is how the car stands. Fitting of the cage is the only thing now to do as far as I'm aware. Hopefully this will be done within the next month so it should be back on the road for the summer and j can get to know it all over again!

Not booked any yet, waiting for the car to be finished before i do. I have booked a day off i September ready for a track evening though so that may well be it's first proper outing. Going to do some road miles in it to get used to the changes first.

Well this escalated quickly!!! Great stuff.
What can i say, it was an expensive month! The turnaround on the cage actually caught me out as i was expecting lots more time to prep the car for it.

I wasn’t expecting mine so quick either. Are you fitting yourself? Is that cage bolt to floor or does it have base plates and boxes?

Nice mods so far mate.

Planning on it yes, just trying to get a day sorted with my brother-in-law for him to come and do the welding. It's essentially the same cage as in your car but with a few less cross bars so lots of plates and boxes. I'm very much looking forward to it going in!

We had quite a bit of faffing and reshaping of plates / boxes etc to get it in. The biggest bit was working out the cutting of the crash bar. There are little reference photos out there for it all. Great cage once fitted. Good thing about the cage I have and the one you’ve bought is that it’s FIA approved. The cheaper cages are not built to regs and are therefore not suitable or eligible for competition.

Slower weekend than I was hoping for. Managed to get the dash bar out and re shaped though with the help of my brother in law. At least I have managed to position the cage in the car and can see exactly how it fits. Hoping to get all the foot plates welded in over then next couple of weekends then it's onto tidying up some wiring and it's pretty much there. 0b3cce73ac7541e2545e8990d43fc9b4.jpg668d966bb11663540a87d5453ecb30f2.jpg581efc087c6df9023921a8a826eda77c.jpgc828b8f71cc6278368537a237473bb60.jpg500eafb3d9f6c41efaa75dedc1929a79.jpg6fbd8c814d58d413d49bb44a123478fb.jpg
