Just back from my daily commute, popped the bonet to tighten the Map sensor,

Small puddle of fresh oil(?) Around the spark plugs. Car was recently serviced fully serviced By renault and they never mentioned any leaks

Thats a common leak on these cars, there's a fix in the how to section which is accessible by being a paid member.

Either this, or when you got is serviced some idiot spilt oil everywhere... which i could see happening with a renault main dealer

Thats grand. I thought it may have been a spillage as thers a fair amount of it. Gonna do a quick wash if the engine bay and check it after tonights mountain hoonage.

Thanks guys

Hi all. Sorry to hijack the thread, does anyone have the link to that how-to fix please? Had a look but couldn't find it!!!! Got a very slight leak myself and wouldn't mind sorting it!!

Thanks!

Scott

locate and Take out offending bolts that are sweating and seal thread and top of bolt with red gasket silicone red for temperatures . this will hold until you need timing belt done ect as the proper way to do it is to take rocker cover off and reseal with Renault silicone as in their wisdom they did not use a gasket in these cars and only sealed with silicone witch in a large number of cases results in bolts sweating. If you wait till timing belt they need to reseal anyway but if you ask them to do on its own been quoted as much as £ 300 from dealer.

Fix is as per the above post Scott Rockshow , this thread also has a bit more info in it. I believe it's 'the' thread, though there are a few relating to it, and how to fix the leak. All the same though

That great thank you. I'll do the temporary fix for now. Mine isn't too bad at the moment, and my cam belt has already been done. So I'll forgo the expense for now. My next main fix after having the front end knock checked is to get the bottom ball joint replaced! Sounds quite labour intensive(?) and the ball joints also seem pretty expensive, but I guess that's to be expected for the type of car!!!

£70 for a ball joint, £150 for the swap.

Yeah the balljoint is one of the cheaper fixes on these cars, not expensive at all really. It gets expensive if the garage you use orders the whole hub assembly, rather than the ball joint itself - there are a couple of RS specialists who can do it the 'cheaper' way, depending where you are located??
