Servicing

My 197 needs a service, im gonna take her to a Renfault garage just because it has some warrenty issues I want resolving.

The car is nearly 3 years old (in Feb) and is on 19.5k miles. I just wondered what service is needed and also what prices people have paid?

I have two quotes so far

Renault Sheffield claim it needs the spark plugs and will cost £307.66
Renault Wakefield say it doesnt need them till 36k (which I wont hit till next year at the earliest) and have come in at £195.

Thats a crazy price difference to say the only difference just spark plugs?!

your from barnsley, if you want your car servicing get down to ricky p rpm.

absolute legend with french cars and will sort you out with any work you want doing

yeah, I'll keep him in mind for future servicing, thing is I have a load of warranty issues I need clearing up before warranty is up at the end of next month. Another issue is I'd need the work doing on Saturday as I work during the week.

I think Wakefield are right tbh mate, check the service schedule in the handbook. Sounds about the right price for the service too, as it is only a small service.

The plugs need doing at 36k or 3 years whicher comes first.

Get your oil, filters and spark plugs yourself and safe a fortune. I got my plugs from opie oils for £35. Mobil 1 fully synth from costco for a out £30 and oil filter from u ipart for £3.

You will only have to pay labour then which I think is £75 an hour at main dealers.

good news for people of lincoln and surrounding areas, The clio centre is coming soon
renault sport specialists minimum of main dealer quality maxium of half price
Servicing, repairs, diagnostics etc
will be here 1st of feb

Book says 36k miles, no mention of age for spark plugs. Does anyone else's service book say anything different?

I queried this with my local dealership when I had my 3 year service done last March. They couldn't find any evidence that the plugs needed doing at 3 years so I didn't bother.

I paid £200 for my 3 year service at a Renault dealer.

I should hit 36k aroud the time the 5th year service is due so will get them done then. Is 5 years too long to leave them?

i change my plugs every 12,000 mile along with oil and filter, am fairly sure thats what the service books says to.

I had 21k on my clio, but it was just 3 yrs old a few weeks back. Took it to renault for its service and they changed the plugs on mine. was supposed to be 310, but the woman who booked me in made an error, so I was only charged 210.

thats right mate book only says every 36,000 miles , there is no time interval e.g. every 2 or 4 years.

if spark plugs is the only difference between the 2 quotes you have i would check the cost of buying plugs yourself.

your service history will still be FSH like you want and if you come to sell car, and just keep the receipt to show you did change them even though they were not part of service requirements.

My service book definitely says every 36k or 3 years.

Buy the plugs from opie oils for about £37 delivered and do them yourself, they're very easy to change

Always good when that happens!!!

Had mine done at Wakey about 4mths ago. They changed the plugs for the 3yr/36k service and IIRC it cost £235 tell them you want it doing at the same time and it means you won't have to at a later date. They are definitely part of the third service though.

Mines going to Evans Halshaw Sheffield now, they have agreed to price match Harratts Wakefield (As I dont really rate their service TBH). So thought I would give sheffield a try and also they are much closer and more convenient for me now on the new penistone road site.

They are looking into the plugs if It really needs them they'll be done, but Harratts said there is no date on the plugs only mileage, which to me makes more sense, a plug wouldn't really "expire" after a time period like a fluid would.

Let us know how you get on at Evans, Rob. Mine will be going there for its
12k service later on this year. I have never had any real dealings with them before only just been to get parts.
