Servicing

In the name of good **ck. Two Techs Dartford I think that's Kent that must have been post Brexit price a Renault Dealer in Northern Ireland quoted £700 and I've paid £900 twice on a 172 Clio yes I had it that long.

Well to be honest I bought the genuine timing tools and the full genuine parts kit, pump and all and the head tech from the dealership did the hole thing for less than £200 so I told him to keep the timing tools as I would not be using them.

I paid just under £800 for cambelt change, water pump, service and thermostat through a local Renault independent.

Yeah what @-Eddie- said it’s a bit more expensive but while front ends off you might as well do it..
Erm you don’t take the front end off? Just an engine mount, I suspect he meant while the side of the engine is stripped...

The real reason is you do idler pulleys and tensioner as the belt runs on them, the cambelt also runs on the water pump so if you don’t do it your leaving a common fail item to potentially go and you may as well have not bothered doing all the other parts, the bearings are no better or worse than an older pulley or tensioner bearing ie it’s a big risk not doing it if it’s done the same miles as the other bearings :thumb:

So just had the cambelt and water pump done and been told to drive it carefully (No throttle over 3000rpm) for 1000 miles it that really necessary?

I’ve not heard that before either. Don’t see why it should make a difference, unless the garage isn’t confident the did the job right??

Nope, makes no odds! If it’s gonna break or come off it will total the engine regardless of whether it’s doing 2000 revs or 5000! Never heard mention of that anywhere... ever and I’ve fitted 1000’s of timing belts!
