Safe mode??

Do clio 197's come with a built in safe mode in the engine that stops you from highly revving a cold engine?

Yup, correct. When using engine pre-heating system there is no kangorooing.

if its the same as the 172/182 and i think it will be similar it only reduces maximum revs by a small amount

the poor cold running of the 197 is more to do with meeting emissions than engine protection

the very early 197 had a higher co2 rating than the later 56 plate onwards cars and i think they suffer slightly less when cold

renault issued a statement about the cold running and "recommended" letting the engine idle for a few minutes before driving off!!!!
