Red light of death

Prob an easy obvious one but after a long journey (120 miles) my red light of death came on (the stop light) this was accompanied by the battery icon and "low battery" text in the display. After what seamed like only 5 seconds it vanished. Since then it has done it twice again.

anyone else had this, its going in for service next week so will highlight it then, other than that the car runs lovely.
 
Seen this on here before mate, search for a thread and see if you can find any more info out about the problem from that.
