pu11y's Nimbus 197

MOT due in the next few weeks. Due a service shortly too, and it obviously makes sense to get that done first.

What does a normal service entail exactly? The cars on 31,000 miles and had the cambelt etc. done last year. I've have had a look at the service schedule, but any advice is welcome.

Was the aux belt changed at the same time ?

Oil and filter , air filter / pollen filter would be pretty standard, plus plugs if you don't know when they were last done.

Up to you whether you do gearbox oil too , I would be cleaning / greasing the brembos too.

as above i'd say..would do plugs as suggested above..cabin filter you can do yourself..easy job..maybe have them have a look at your brakes but i'd do this myself...

Cheers. Not sure about aux belt actually, but I'll check. Plugs changed last year. The brakes are getting completely refreshed. I know there's lots of info on here, but any recommendations for pads, disks, fluid and braided lines?

mintex discs are quite popular and decent priced..motul 600/660 brake fluid, mintex pads 1144 are good, yellow stuff brake pads, ferodo 2500 etc..
hel or goodridge braided lines

I went for OE spec items (brembo pads though) , nothing fancy and they were much improved after I replaced all seals on the brembos too. Can find you the links to the discs and pads if you like.

Yeah mate, the links would be very helpful.

The cars still off the road. Got the front disks and pads, still saving for the rears and braided lines. Lost my locking wheel nut key which is annoying.

Do you have to swap some wires around for those rear lights? if so, is it hard or a piece of piss? Also, got a link where you got them from?

pu11y was the scan gauge a good buy, first time I've seen one and is it easy to install?

Indeed you do mate. I'm lead to believe it's fairly easy stuff, but I haven't installed mine properly yet - I'll pop a post up in here when they're fitted. I got them off somebody on here, but they go up on eBay under 'mrk 3 Clio GT rear lights'.

Yes mate, really useful. Shows you all sorts of handy data - including fault codes. There's a few cheaper alternatives that could be worth looking at, but I think the scan gauge is one of the better ones.

It just plugs into the obd port, so really easy. If you want it in the centre console you need to do a small bit of modification though, and my steering wheel controls no longer work, although I'm yet you work out why.

pu11y cool I think I'll give one ago, where's the best place to buy them? Thank mate

I got mine from Amazon mate. I seem to remember them being similarly priced everywhere I checked, although eBay could be worth a look.

I've just checked and the cheaper one I recalled is called Ultragauge, but I can't vouch for it personally.

New disks and pads ordered. Just need to get someone to fit them, and then service and MOT the car. Can't wait to get it back on the road, although the idea of a bike is keeping my mind occupied!
