Project 111 is born

Aww come on folks the car was sprayed in the equivalent of a garden shed as much as i like Rob!!

no prep work and no expense spent!!

. We did what prep we could given the time we had. TBH for first timers, on a modest budget, working with an accident damaged car and doing it in a "shed", I'm pretty chuffed with the results. Is it perfect? No. Did we learn a lot? Yes. Would do it the same next time? No. Would we do it again? Yes.

If this was anybody elses thread it would be slated to fook

Possibly. And if it was an immaculate car to begin with, and someone was passing it off as the ultimate finish, I'd probably be in there doing a bit of slating myself. Instead, I've already chosen what colour I'm going to paint mine lol . It's a reversible finish that in Angels case was used to cover over the damage until the panels are replaced, and in my case will just be for sh*ts and giggles.

dont hold back huh mate, as true as it is tho.
anyway.. fair play to you guys for having a go at it, cant imagine how much it would of cost in a body shop.
For me the wheels dont suit which takes the hard work spent on the car away

Don't think it's that dear to do plastidip? About 600quid for a small car.

Fraction of that doing it yourself obviously.

and about 2k for a semi decent paint job or around 8k for Lotus to paint it.

made sense to buy the kit. it'll come in very handy

Kind of a agree. Had every intention of doing the wheels black that Weekend but it was discussed and I just had to see what the white looked like.

Sometimes I like them and then sometimes I don't. like the white ones on the Clio they will be going black or changed for something else black

I don't that's why I asked if you were keeping them lol

I think black would look nicer imo.

Lol I think they would too. I had this same dilemma with the Clio and black was definitely better. Might crack out the spray gun at the weekend.

I agree on the wheels. Was worth a shot to see how they would look. But for me they don't fit the theme now it's painted.

I was quoted £650 to Plastidip the car but that was without the inner door and door shuts.

The whole kit including the basecoat, red and black came in under £500.

The prep carried out before and the finishing on the repair would've cost quite a bit but being able to do it myself was part of the reason I was happy to buy one that needed work. That's what projects are all about.

@Fernandez... There were 3 Elises & 1 Exige at a race meeting i did on Sunday & i was talking to a guy that had one in full carbon.

If your after a good seat have a look at Tillett, they do a 1 piece direct fit carbon seat for your Lotus with or without padding that weighs just 3kg.
I had a sit in it & its the best race seat ive ever seen.

I've seen those seats and they are amazing. I think I'd need a little padding though. got my eye on some other seats that come with tiny strips of foam but we'll see.

Well I think it looks ****ing great fella. Well done for giving it a go yourself. Lets face it you picked up something where the shell was tanked. It now looks good and has the desired finish.

Cant wait to see more updates. Always wanted a Elise/Exige to play with... Have you any better pictures of the rear diffuser?

IMO it looks tacky.

If it was all one colour (Not matte) and had silver wheels then it would be 100000% nicer.

If it wasn't matte, all one colour and had silver wheels it would look like every other elise out there. I know matte finish divides opinion it was the same when the raider came out

Got round to fitting the carbon dash trim. Whilst the dash was out the old blue tatty fabric was changed for some nice new black stuff.

Fitted the carbon door cards but just need to finish fitting the carbon door pulls then I'll post up photos of those.

Just waiting on a quick release boss so that the new steering wheel can go on.
