People moving on from clio

Always makes me a bit sad seeing people sell up from clios. Though I do find it funny seeing the alternatives people go for. From what I've seen just browsing this forum and clicking the threads entitled 'new car!' most people either go German, or go Megane.

Fascinating that I haven't come across people moving to different hot hatches, whilst my time spent on corsa-D forums I saw a lot of people heading RS way. (Think Ollie-RS was one?).

I often wonder where I'll go next... Newish German doesn't appeal to me, it's for the men in suits. It's not that I don't think they're amazing car's just would never buy one myself at this time in life. Not until I can/if i can happily afford one with an M or RS infront of the numbers.

Can easily see me driving the clio until it blows up, weekend/track slag as I get older. Along with something else that's interesting and full of character for a run around. Old school E30 or something of that nature.

Thoughts?

Get on a RS trackday and drive a meg round a track and you will soon see why.

I still take the clio if I want seat of your pants fun but if i want speed then the meg is without doubt the one to get out the garage.

I drove a Meg round Silverstone and compared to the Clio it was boring, uninspiring, and although it may have been quicker it just didn't have the fun factor

I had a similar experience, I liked the LSD but the lazy torque on track made it less fun for me there. On road I'd probably find it just as much fun but on the day it didn't do it for me.

As for moving on? NEVVEEERRRRR!!!!!! :tongueout:roud:

I wouldn't say it's boring and uninspiring but defiantly not as fun. I've always said that. It's just easier to drive quicker in.

I fully expect the Mk4 RS Clio to bring the same experience as that of the meg or even less with its crappy paddle gear box.

One thing is the meg is a million miles ahead when it comes to day to day living. I guess that's why most people move to it.

I know with our family of 5 it's far more convenient than the Clio due to the number of seats.

There are quite a few different cars being changed to recently, slower stuff too. I think it'll be a bit of a trend for a while, people will go to diesels and then come back after they find them boring. It might be as the price falls people buy them as second cars. I quite like my MPS, it's no Clio though, not as fun to drive and I do miss her.

I've had french hot hatchs since day one and never owned anything different. Next i'd like to try something jap, basically as good as french stuff plus reliability is appealing.

Happily swap my clio for an Integra DC5.

We was only talking about what next last night and my honest answer is that the Clio will be my main car until warranty runs out when is 4 and then a sensible diesel shall come next but the Clio won't go, she will remain my toy

I've toyed with the idea of changing earlier this year, but when it came to it I couldn't do it.

Nicole will be staying with me full-stop. And as soon as the finance is cleared she'll be turning into Nicole.R.

Sis had/has a M3, very nice car.

She abandoned it in Dubai airport car park and still has the keys!

That was 3 months ago after taking redundancy.

She did say the dealers were the worst she has ever come across, second only after merc.

Im going backwards.
Had minis when i passed my test then
Had a m plate 16v clio years ago. (still have it)

Then moved on to a escort cosworth, then a new focus rs then got the liquid yellow v6.
Had a evo inbetween then got the ultimate porsche ive allways wanted.

All thats now gone, well ive still got the spaceframed mini .

Houses family etc n finances dictate i have to downgrad so here i am in the clio again and to be honest i carnt wait to get it on the road. Im hoping it will be ok as an everyday car and i no it will put a smile on my face with the handling. I no its going to be horrendously slow compared to what im used to but ha ho.

Don't you find the Clio a bit "easy" on track though? I thought it was great fun but arguably doesn't necessarily reward a skilled driver that much more than a complete amateur.

I do occasionally miss mine but wouldn't have another due to the poor fuel economy and expensive component failure. Sure, maybe fuel economy shouldn't be an issue, but most of my driving is urban/motorway, so no benefit in the compromises of a Clio versus something dull and economical. When I do get chance to press on then I want something more challenging. Granted this does mean more expense overall and some missed opportunities, but for me the balance tipped against the Clio.

I'm in for long haul.. If I had to pick one car it'd be a Megane probably but I'd really miss the Clio's screaming engine!

As a second car (which it'll become next year) to an automatic 330d it makes perfect sense. I'll keep this running as long as possible.

I've been thinking about moving on for the last year or so but really can't find anything affordable that will give the same thrills.

I thought about an S2000 but insurance seems to be ridiculous on these (Over double what I pay on the 197). The only 2 cars which appeal are the porsche boxster and the BMW Z4M with the former being perfectly setup and the later being a bit more hooligan!
