Oil in Spark plug and oil leaking from throttle body side..

Just pulled out the first spark plug to change them. Car is just under 36k

Found this..

Im not technical minded, but I don't think it's supposed to be there.

There is oil on the plug, and the coil and in the spark plug hole...

Called the Renault garage that the car has the warranty with. They were as helpful as they have ever been. (NOT)

Car is going in Tuesday.

Just looked at the other spark plugs. The tip is still the same colour as above. But the oil is not there...

I think the cam covers can leak into the plug recess. Mine used to leak out and pool on the lower inlet.

Thanks all for the advice.

I presume there is no way of spilling oil (from the oil filler cap) and it leaking into the 1st plug? As the car was serviced at the Renault dealers before I brought it in Sept?

Is the oil filler cap next to that plug hole (sorry only just had my car)? because thats a fault that happens with the twin spark alfas, missing the hole and filling up the nearest two plug holes.

Not the same car but same problem. ;/

Yup the oil filler cap is near the first plug.

As the car is still under warranty, I may take it in to them. Just in case

Doing abit of digging about the engine this afternoon. And found this..

Looks like its oil goes all the way down from that plug (i do not know what plug that is) And along the seal as you can see...

Lets hope this is nothing too! Roll on tuesday...

thats the camshaft blanking seal where the timing tool locks the camshaft in position - they are available seperately if need replacing

And the last post until tomorrow's finding's.

Just taken 3 videos of the engine noise.

Cold / warm / up to temp

Anyone else notice if their engine sounds like this?

Update 1.

Dropped car off this morning to dealers at 8.40. When proceeded to wait for over 1 hour for the hire car. (Even though we arranged to the booking last Saturday)

great start...

Welcome to renault customer service.

They left me with a 1litre twingo for a month just 3 months after i'd payed for a 197 whose abs refused to play.

This thread is also up on the Renault sport forums. Im waiting for their call.

Thing im most concerned about is the tapping noise above, maybe it is something to-do with the spark plugs.

But that tapping has been there for quite some time...

Update 2. Just had a phone call from the dealer.

1. They could not fault the car.

2. The tapping noise is the normal noise from the injectors.

3. The Oil leak picture above, is just sweating. They have torqued up the bolts on the cam cover.

4. I spoke to them about a knocking noise coming from the foot well of drivers side. (when the car is cold and you lift of the accelerator in 2nd / 3rd gear) Nope could not see anything wrong with it.

5. Did not even mention the spark plugs and the oil that the car went in for in the first place!

I asked the person I spoke to on the phone, if i could hear another 197 / 200 they have in their forecourt. Hopefully i will have time to do that this evening.

Failing that could someone post up a vid of their standard 197 / 200 engine sound?

Matt
