...was out washing the car and I heard the distinct sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin Engine in the distance....shortly after I was treated to a short aerial display by a Spitfire flying over Thornbury...my hair stood on end when I heard it in the distance, and I was like a gibering idiot when the it was over my street....love it....still tearful!! There is nothing better than the sound of a Spitfire........

Love the sound of the spitfire ,hurricane and the Lancaster Bomber when there together.I always wanted to go in a Lancaster

....I know it because when you hear it you'll never forget.....there was only one over head but this is the sort of think I was seeing and hearing...only for about 20 seconds!

Yep, fan of that noise myself too.

I've been lucky enough to see displays at airshows as a kid. The Spitfire really is a wonderful piece of history.

The Spitfire and Lancaster are iconic aircraft. Looking forward to the day they dig up the 20 odd brand new ones buried in Burma.
Only 35'ish flying in the world so 20 odd new original ones flying is just mind blowing if your an military aircraft fan.

...yes...I think that is a Merlin Engine....only revs to 1500 rpm!
