I don't see why they don't make the current Clio have a 2.0L, it's madness downgrading. I know it was for emissions, but come on! They should do something differerent with the new Megane then!

They're all at it though. Look at the Peugeot RCZ R for example; they squeezed 270 ponies out of a 1.6. I don't have a problem with it per se but they have to make them sound artificially good because a 1.6 unit is never going to sound meaty. That thing does go like warm excrement off a shovel though.

Agree or disagree with this guy? I think that he has a point. Mind you, I also think that they'd have run the risk of making the Clio quicker and better than the Megane and closed themselves out of the mid sized hot hatch market by producing it from the offset. Hmm...

The new megane sport will be due soon though! And that'll be miles faster than a 275bhp clio I imagine.

its a risky game RS is playing, it is pushing expectations on the new megane RS due in 2017, I cant wait for the news as well, it would be interesting if this went on sale, but what output would a megane have to receive to be the faster one?

How is it downgrading exactly? You can extract more power from that 1.6T than you can the 197s 2L and it's more economical and less emissions...

Yes as Chris as said 197/200 most run 190/185 bhp avg on a 2LT or 200 plus on a1.6 turbo with lower running costs and cheap road tax it's and upgrade plus it's cheaper

On reflection, I would agree with that too. A N/A aspirated two litre engine isn't going to produce more power. In order to be faster it would need a whopping great turbo but that will result only in higher emissions and greater fuel consumption. It might sound a little nicer but it's not necessarily better as such.

Assumed meant 2L turbo as against 1.6L turbo.

Well yes, but as pretty much every single person who has tried megging the 197s and 200s it's really not that simple as there's a lot more to it, running temperatures as its a smaller bay being a major one (hence why Renault made a mid engined v6)... Assume Renault have solved this by dropping the 275 lump into the 200t. Let's hope so.
