New 197 and two weeks in electrical problems

Bought a clio 197 recently see picture, gorgeous with great spec.

Now the problem is I couldn't get the wipers to squirt water... you know what happens next, smoke came out the stalk area burnt out...

I have a new stalk on order but I'm encountering the following, I think these are issues anyway.

When I get in the car I cannot put the ignition on, it's either do nothing or start the engine.

The climate control doesn't work since the stalk burnt out, heating aircon has nothing to do with wiper stalk though...

Lastly when switching the engine off i have to push the power off button on he radio, otherwise it will keep playing if not switched off after locking the car.

I've order a new stalk of Ebay for £40.00 and took wipers and scuttle panel to check wiper if blocked drains. All good there.

Love the handle and turn in just need to get these gremlins sorted. Bad luck only owned the car three weeks and done 200 miles.

This might have been the reason the car was sold why not become a member to get access to the how to section so helpful info on common issues and jobs it's £5. Yours has auto headlights/washers and Xenon's sounds like the power switching unit is on its way out that's the box behind the passenger headlight it controls most electrical items headlights, washers etc.

I'll give you this advice do not go and think the parts are the same as any other Clio always, always get the part number from the part and look for the part number and always find parts by part number never go to a car parts store and ask for parts based on reg. or model 9 times out of ten you will be given the wrong part. Case in point go to eBay look for "Clio 197 alloy" you will see 4 stud wheels listed as well. Anyway welcome along hope you get it sorted the problem is a suggestion a Renault sport specialist mechanic might have seen the problem before and save you money swapping parts.

Thanks, get the point about parts but when browsing Ebay I had a £5 voucher pop up so got he part for £35.00 delivered. Renault wanted £150.00 we shall see, that should fix the windscreen washers after all the YouTube videos I've seen.

Regarding climate control I've changed the fuses relating to the climate control/aircon/instrument panel no luck there. Am I right in thinking I don't have a resistor pack as I have climate control,?? See that causes lots of problems for people with manual heating controls.

Replacing the wiper stalk should sort the issue. The problem is that the indicator stalk wiring plugs in and goes through the wiper stalk so they eventually burn out.

With regards to the Climate Control you are right about the resistor, they dont burn out like the manual controls. The problem Turkie mentions is a known fault. The UCH is in a poor place and often gets water ingress and again, burns out causing weird electrical issues.

With regards to your radio, have you tried opening the door after shutting off the engine? This turns off the ignition completely and turns the radio off.

If you push the start button with no clutch or brake pedal depressed does it not turn on the ignition?

Tha is for the reply, okay I'm going to look into the UCH, havnt seen anything of it in my extensive research if clio 197 problems.

When I get in the car and push the start button, only display near the speedo rev counter shows up saying press brake and start to start engine. Nothing else lights up, I.e. abs/traction/warning light. Cant remember if it ever did as only driven the car 3 times since getting it. Regarding radio this will stay on after opening and closing door then locking car. Changed the cigarette lighter fuse, as that was a problem that could lead to this issue to no avail.

I'll keep you all updated with the resolution. Cravkingvcar when I got it every service invoice and even original sales invoice, 73k with lots of options that all worked at the time of purchase.

New wiper stalk fitted, no luck wipers still not spraying water front or rear and not fixed any other electrical issues.

Picture attached of damage done to old stalk.

Are there any fuses in engine bay benefit the car battery I believe that this all could relate to?

Looked into the uch a d that's a lot of money if that is the issue.
Thanks Tom
