My Lambo SG Reborn..

Hi Guys

I thought i would share the restoring of my Gallardo LP570-4 Superlaggera Edizione Tecnica...I know its a mouthful.

There is a long story about how the car came to be as it is but the short version is the car had a minor front end hit (off the road in a port) whilst uninsured and thats where the nightmare began. The main dealer quoted £50k for the repair which i refused and upon collecting my car it was in pieces door cards off for no reason i could think of, Titanium wheel bolts missing badges missing interior trim pieces missing etc etc.

Anyhoo i am lucky enough to have my own car restoration business and managed to source all the original parts myself for circa £20k and have begun to build the car back up in house in free hours. Its not something i wanted to do as lambo is not a marque we usually work on and is a pain for diagnostics etc. This week i have kept a tech free and will try to get the car finished as the car and parts have just come back from my body shop.

Its been a painful few months as i have to put paid for and scheduled work in front of my car all the time for obvious reasons as well as having the cash to buy all the parts, the titanium wheel bolts alone are 1000 USD with lambo tax and i sadly do not have a money tree. Finally she will live again.

Here she sits at the moment just a baby with 6000 miles on the clock, We have just replaced the front crash bars and cross member luckily there was no damage to the chassis legs.

Ill update as things progress too and then hopefully get some nice pictures along side the 200.

Guess this is some of the price you have to but shouldn't have to pay being a super car owner...

Lovely looking car though.

So bit of an update got the car set up to begin the rebuild stated off today looking like this

IMG_20170412_180709.jpg

Fitted the new headlights but my complete @#£ of a parts manager ordered me both headlights but i only needed the drivers side and lambo won't take the right side back. Had half a mind to pull it out his salary since he's always messing up at my expense and I'm both tired and sometimes skint because of it. After a coffee and a smoke i thought might be worth hanging onto the part anyways.

Next up was the radiators and ducting

IMG_20170412_164827.jpg

Fitted new washer bottle filler neck but had to order the entire tank and pump assembly as not sold separately, sure i could have found a part to do the job but this isn't my track slag and i don't want to wreck the value of the car with being a 570 and all.

Got the horn, wipers, oil cooler and bonnet fitted today too.

IMG_20170413_160218.jpg IMG_20170413_171240.jpg

I bled and pressurised the coolant system and gave the air filters a quick vacume as there was plenty of crud in the air box filters have some kinda granny pube wrapping that seems to do it's job well.

Tomorrow should get the bumper on and maybe even get to take it for a spin but still need to drain the old fuel and get some decent speed juice in there.

Some bonus pics

Brake porn 15 ceramics you can also see the bilstein dampers with the hydraulic lift unit which is super useful for when im cruising with a heavy lass.

The awesome F12 in for service.

What a story!!!

Good to see some progress happening at last. Bet you're itching to drive it. Keeps the miles off though I guess!

Good to have a good read about a supercar..its coming along nicely..what is the car for?track or everyday use?

It's just a weekend car mate, the superleggera is decent on track but it was still intended to be a more focused road car the super trofeo was the track variant.

I went for the sg over other cars because i like the feeling of the single clutch hydraulic manuals over dual clutch set ups old tech with an apitite for clutches but almost as fast and smack you in the back on upshifts. All about the drama.

The car weighs around 1340 kg 1420 with me in it, once i get the Akra on it should be around 1330 and a decent tune should take it up to around 600 bhp. Power to weight is pretty awesome.

Transferred the stickers from the old bonnet to the new one to try to keep it looking original, trick is to cover the old ones in masking tape then heat them, then as you peel them off the masking tape keeps the shape of the sticker.

Bumpers built up and ready to go on tomorrow

Few pics of the interior rather epic abounts of carbon.

The car has the carbon pack so even the door handles are carbon.

Needs a good clean in there

Epic machine on another level. Clever work with the decals too......

Is this going to be a used and abused toy, a sunny weekend ride or.......?

Tell me.......your financial situation aside; its obviously a huge chunk of cash to have invested in a car. For anyone.

Does leaving it parked up when out, the area your visiting etc worry you. ie: Do / will you be very wary of where your going, where car will be parked etc etc. I'm pretty sure it would end up as a garage queen where it mine. Id be so anal and truly afraid of damage, scrapes etc etc

In saying that; it is "just" a car and life is for living.

Just wondering in my small mind

@sevenfourate

It's a weekender, not a drink holder to be found anywhere which is what kills it for me as a daily lol. Also in HK on a daily basis with meetings etc you never know where you've got to park etc and some carparks are just too tight for it so yea sometimes it can be stressful. That's why I have the Clio for daily duties 3 cup holders and the size of one of of micheal Jordan's trainers so can park it anywhere.

If i was still in the UK would definitely be getting track time but i wouldn't be modifying it for that purpose etc.

It lives outside in a secure carpark with my Clio, if i wanted a parking space in the basement under my apartment it was 180k to buy one and well that could by me another lambo so didn't bother. I don't worry about damage really as like you say what's the point if you don't use it and that's a risk for any car and getting a dent or a touch up on a lambo is no more expensive than on any other car.

Yes it's a huge chunk of money but they haven't lost much over the years and with this one only having 4900 miles on it i can do around another 10,000 before worrying about the numbers.

I think when you a buy a car like this you have to do it with real passion for what your buying the gallardo was a dream car of mine i love the shape and the small size etc and the SG 570 was the pinnacle of the road going gallardo models.so if the price did bottom out i could happily live with it forever. Would have been much easier to go out and finance a new huracan but they just don't float my boat.

Thats really refreshing to hear if im honest.

I've had a few Ducati's etc i spent alot of time and effort on - and in the end was afraid to use them. Not for the riding. But for leaving them around when you arrive as much as anything. But ultimately these machines were all made for / to be used. And abused !

Whats your projected timescale for 'completion' ?

I've had a few bikes cbr650 etc too though nothing as awesome as a ducati, problem with bikes is they are so easy to steal i was always paranoid about that so can totally understand how you feel.

Should have the car back together tomorrow then just need to get a new battery after the bank holiday.

Need to recover a bit financially an take the Mrs on a long promised holiday then I'll look at getting an exhaust and a tune i want the Akra but it's 5k for the slip on system so it's gotta wait lol

Firstly, the interior is pure porn Pete. Really. Carbon interiors really are the business.

Awesome work with the sticker, love attention to detail like that. I'm sure it would be a provenance thing if it ever came to resale time too.

Loved the bit where you're talking about weight and power. So basically what you're saying is, roughly the same weight of the Clio, with roughly three times the power. I'm sure it's hilarious!

Loving this thread. Please do keep us up to date and post lots of pics if you get time.
