MOT

Hi guys,

Just had my MOT done on my 197, advisories are:

5df546a4373e9936142409b669cdb432.jpg

I had my car serviced at the start of the year by RenaultSport specialists and they found a broken spring which they replaced, they also did my gearbox oil.

The MOT guys said that there was a fair amount of oil on the undertray but didn't actually look at the bottom of the block, could the oil be from the gearbox oil change or engine oil change and just have dropped onto the undertray? My levels seem fine and I haven't noticed any major drops?

Anything to worry about? Also is the undertray easy to take off as may have a look this weekend.

Cheers guys

Probably be the sump gasket, I know when I had my car in for the ball joints doing at a specialist he checked it all over and said there was some oil in the undertray and that's what it was. Best to change it with an oil change, mines been like it for about 6 months now and the oil level has been fine - Maybe topped up half a litre once.

Not even doing it with my service tomorrow tbh, bit short on money and there's a few other bits I need doing over the coming months so going to get it done then.

So you reckon leave it until the next service? Checked oil level earlier when it was warm but had been off for 30 mins and oil level was on max still

I'm by no means a mechanic nor am I encouraging you to leave it, but mine has been fine. As long as you're regularly checking your oil level then I can't see no harm in it.

It's not massively straight forward either from what I've read, and requires an oil change so I'd be leaving it till the next service as it saves doing it twice. So just factor in the sump gasket £28.88 and an extra hour or so labour when your next service is due.

Ok mate, cheers.

Also any idea how easy the undertray is to take off?

may have a leakage from the spark plugs or bolts on your manifold..also the drain screw comes with a brass washer..maybe it wasnt used when replacing engine oil...

Clean undertray and bottom of engine and gearbox. Check after a week to see which area is leaking. Changing gearbox oil is messy but the undertray has to be off to drain it. You fill from the wheel arch area so theoretically it could have been filled with the undertray back on. When refilling the oil will overflow to show that it's full. Hope it's nothing seriously mate. After you get new tyres and the ball joint replaced get the tracking realigned. Try cleaning the rear discs up by driving with the handbrake on.
