Meglio for my 21st

I put some petrol in my car today and it was over £1.50 a litre for some BP super unleaded. Petrol is ridiculously expensive at the moment.

Whats the MPG like now?
I don’t know as the aftermarket ECU has knocked out the MPG and range on the clocks. It used half a tank doing 70 miles on the motorway then the gauge didn’t really move after a half an hour hoon around the lanes - work that one out lol.

Have you had an insurance quote? The only reason I ask is @EthanMenance tried to get a temporary insurance quote to drive my Megane 280 and all of the usual sites declined to give him a quote despite the fact he is 20 with a 2 year NCB.
I haven't looked yet, won't be until next year but would be interesting to see how much it'd be, might give admiral a ring tomorrow.
My thinking as well, insurance isn't so straight forward and you are talking about a standard Meg 280, so a converted Clio might be very limited.
I was getting ridiculous quotes on my E36 due to all my NCB on my Clio and i've been driving a LONG time lol, that is standard engined too.
So do a quote so you know where you stand, or you'll pump loads of money for a car that costs an arm and leg to insure.

Out of curiosity, are all your mods declared currently?
Yes all declared. I got pulled by the police a few weeks back for excessively speeding in a 30 at 2am, wasn't pretty, but he asked me if they were all declared and wanted a list of modifications, not sure if he is allowed to do that, but Iwas shitting it so I gave him the full run down. My mother wouldn't let me take it out until she had proof they were all declared.
Do you still live at home? I get that impression from your posts and photographs that's all.
If I still lived at home approaching my 21st, then spunking up to £10k on modifications on a car wouldn't be the top of my list.
Yes still at home, and happily at home, luckily enough don't have to pay rent or anything like that, so putting away about £1k a month into savings (wallet for the car). Old man is supporting the idea as that's what he did when he was younger, Mum thinks I'm an idiot.
I was busy chucking money into this at 21 cus I wanted 500 bhp :tearsofjoy:

Just go for it lad. I’d defo look at buying one already done tho if you don’t have the space/time to do it. Ideally with a 250 engine.
Don't worry I'm definitely doing it! Just deciding to Meg, Supercharge or Buy that's all. Would break my heart to sell my car now, and buying something already done ruins the fun for me, even though I won't be getting my hands dirty, that's in my eyes anyways.
Id go for it at 21. This was my car at 21/22. Pains me that I sold it for a sensible life still to this day!
Financially having done the conversion and paying specialists you’ll be well out of pocket going down this route but you’ll know for sure what’s been done.
Cheaper to buy one that’s done but it’s a risk and you don’t get to keep the car you’re in love with. If you’re anywhere near Herts and want a ride in one I’ll be only too happy to take you out. I’ve no regrets about doing mineView attachment 146744View attachment 146745
100% take you up on that Ben, I would love to feel the booooooost, can talk me through it all at Snett if that's alright? I'm always trying to learn more.
Don’t supercharge it if you plan on using it daily, you’ll need shares in Esso
It will still be my daily yes, doesn't sound promising.

@joehodges154 If you drive the way you say you do then the first thing to budget for is 5k for a re-shell when you stack it :tearsofjoy: :chair:

Seriously, the megane engine makes it the car renault should have built in the first place.
You'll need around 2k for a complete 250/265 engine (wouldn't touch a 225 engine unless you were forging and rebuilding with new valves, bearings and cams etc), 1k for a 225 gearbox with diff and r26r clutch, 1k for an exhaust, £250 for injectors, £100 for a fuel pump, £4-500 for a map, £500 for ecu coding and engine loom, £750 for a good intercooler and turbo cooler setup. Then add labour to fit it all, plus a contingency fund for if anything breaks, plus £2k for when you inevitably want more power.

I'm a sensible driver don't you worry!

250 engine means more power accessible? & 225 box? The 250 box doesn't fit in a clio then?

250 engine has stronger conrods so can handle more torque without needing forged rods fitted. You need an adapter made to fit the 225 throttle body though.
225 box is a straight fit using half megane/half clio driveshafts.

So if I budget myself about 7? 7.5? That should do everything to a good standard? Or more?

You could always forge the clio engine and turbo it which would save a little money
Sell the clio gearbox and fit the 225 one. A guy who used to be on here forged his clio engine and had over 400bhp.
