If you're at all wanting to get in an E46 M3 now is the time for absolute certain. Prices are only going one way from here. They're really superb cars.

Love it mate, I read that 0-60 speed and reckon you must be giggling like a school kid every time you hit the go pedal.

In terms of the E46's they seem to have all gone up in price recently, seen a lot of sheds being sold with bottom price of £9k, middle of the road going for £13-14k and minters £16k plus.

Absolutely mate. It's daft enough even without downshifting. Blown away how much go there is at 70mph in 6th!

As for the E46, mines a CS version so it's even sillier. The CSL has helped push it up no doubt. There's one on Pistonheads with more miles than mine up for £35k!!! Absolutely daft, but not complaining!

I think the E36 is starting to age really well. The more time passes the more classic and brilliant I think it looks. A friend of mine had an Imola GTII and sold it for £11k a few years back. Wouldn't even like to guess what it's worth now.

Thinking of selling my E30 and getting into an E46 M3. Love the look of the E30 after spending 5 years restoring and engine upgrade, but just not gelling with driving it.

Know what you mean about getting in and out of them, I'm pretty use to it with the track car and have a good core. But tired a seat in a S2 elise to see if I'd be able to drive one being 6'4 and raised my leg to clear the sill and kneed the roof so hard

Driven a few E30s, was behind the wheel of a very nice convertible on Friday as it happens and I agree, although they look fantastic, the driving experience isn't that special. Things have just moved on too far since they were made.

If you have a decent one (sounds like you DO!) it should fetch decent money though.

LOVE my E46, would always recommend them. Especially with the CSL airbox and Alpha N map.

Ha, that really made me laugh mate. I'm dead on six foot and it's a squeeze for me. I have to pull myself in a bit!

Glad you like it Sam, and yep, I'm keeping the M3, I just love it too much. Toyed long and hard with selling it and ordering a new Exige from the factory but in the end, I went second hand. I'd have been absolutely gutted watching someone drive off in the CS.

Yeah is 30 years old, chrome bumper version. Started life as a 316 "no options" car, so light as a light thing. Now has E36 328i engine. Running on brand new BC coilovers. Goes like a bat out of hell but the itch for an M3 has to be scratched.

I can't store the E30 outside as soon as it even senses rain it starts to rust. What are the E46's like? With me having a daily, 2 track cars plus the Sunday E30 garage space is always at a premium.

E46's came with 12 year rust coverage so that says to me they know it's a big improvement. Arches are the worst for it but you don't really hear much about it.

Can't comment too much on it though as mine has seen rain just a handful of times over five years.

Definitely going to be better though!

Ha, that's ok mate, I had a good laugh at myself while it was happening. I pulled up super carefully as close as I possibly could and I actually said out loud "well that's not going to work!"

As for the linkage, it's actually REALLY good in comparison with others. Not at all slack, feels nice and tight. The issue is that you can't rush it at all. I'm used to the Clio where you can just slam it home with no consideration towards mechanical sympathy. It's something that I'll just have to settle into. But yeah from what I've read, and based on the few I've driven, I've definitely got a good one. I've also tried a few 350's and it's the same issue.

Oh and you can't retrofit the 350 set up to the V6 but the only thing I'd miss is the exposed bits, which I have a plan for anyway... bit of a long shot but if it comes off I'll be made up!
