Keycard has to go in slot

My card will only let me run the car once the card is inserted in the slot and keyless entry wont work, battery is two years old, is this the culprit?

Help!

My car is the same, button to unlock, insert card to start, press key card to lock

It's the cheapest thing to check, can't hurt.

My problem, turned out to be the immobiliser control module. It's situated in the left side panel in the boot. Follow the thick cable into the panel, the module is tucked up in there, unclip the multi plug.
