Ken's RS 200 daily/trackday car

It's at the shop at the moment, we'll be doing a leak down to see if the pistonrings are fine or not. Had some tires fitted on the silverstone's: Uniroyal rainsport 3 215/45/17

-Renault Silverstone (laguna) 7J*17" ET50 Glans zwart gepoederlakt
-Uniroyal rainsport 3 215/45/17 87Y

Bloody hell Ken!!!

Always hard to see photos of poorly engines.

Hope it's all as painless as possible mate!

Clio has been back for almost a week, still need to do some miles to get the ECU to adjust the fuel trims.

So what has been done:
cam belt kit
waterpump
serpentine belt + tensioner
gaskets
coolant
engine oil + oilfilter
nuts and bolts
Cylinderhead repair:
-pressure tested
-cleaned before work
-valves intake replaced
-valves exhaust refurbed
-all valve seat cut back on 3 angles
-all valve guides and seals
-cleaned after work

Meanwhile I noticed it needs some love, so I'm replacing/doing:
-Steeringarms
-PU insert for steering rack
-Swaybar links
-Brake discs front: Coated Brembo HC's
-Brake pads front: Ferodo DS1.11
-Brake lines up front (Hel Black ) + brackets (need to fabricate some)
-Brake fluid(Motul RBF660)
-Elite developments stud conversion
-Winter wheels: laguna silverstone's as above.
-wheelalignment
-Full detail

Wow !!! Some love, attention and currency being thrown at your's right now Ken !

How's it driving more to the point ? Happy with the engine work ?

It's not optimal just yet because of the learning the ECU has to do. However you can feel it has more power when you go WOT(fixed map, no learning to do). And the cold start is a lot better + no deadspot in the midrange.

I need to replace my Bridgestone RE070's on my OEM wheels. The wheels need to be refurbed too! It's a costly car to run when previous owners haven't loved it and you track it often.

Good to hear Ken. Quite a few Renault 'niggles' sorted in one go then ! Are you replacing like-for-like with more Bridgestone RE070's ? A tyre i'd like to know a bit more about.......

Have you a comparison to any other rubber used on the 200 ?

I can only compare to very old conti's. And those were rubbish. I do like the RE070's...they still have thread, just don't have the grip when they've been exposed to winter like mine...I wen't on track after driving on them during winter and I just couldn't get them hot enough to really stick and they lost grip during the day regardless of what I did with the pressures. I've now worn 6 of these, and i'm ready to try something else. Yoko AD08R's maybe, I'm going for the sub 2minute lap @ circuit zolder.

The RE070's are fast in dry and 20°C+ wheather though...At the moment in sub 15°C and in the wet -> wheelspin up to third gear and I've got a Quaife.

.....Or get some plastic caps to cover the rusty bolts ?

Wheels look fantastic. Much nicer on these cars in gloss too imo.

Good to see you back on the road Ken. Fingers crossed she's going to treat you a lot better now. Amazing list of upgrades and maintenance there.
