Just got a new 2 me 200 - need to change track rods & ends

Hi all,

Just picked up a 2008 Clio RS 200 as a second car for the wife — totally new to these and bought it as a wee run‑around. She took it to a local garage after hearing a knocking noise from the front, and they’ve come back with the following:
  • £309.01 – track rods
  • £101.49 – track rod ends
  • £59.99 – alignment
  • £470.49 total
+£50 diagnostic.

Does that sound about right for these cars? Also wondering if there’s any other obvious “while you’re in there” jobs worth doing at the same time.

Any recommendations on specific parts or brands to go for? The garage uses their local motor factor, so it’ll likely be whatever generic parts they supply unless I ask otherwise.

Cheers!

I've just done the outer track rod ends on mine for £13 per side using Febi Bilstein parts from ebay. Even the inner tie rods are £15-20 per side. Just search for part numbers and cross-reference the parts on ebay.

7701475837 - Inners
7701474795 & 7701474796 - Ends

TRW made the renault track rod ends and a pair of them is £36 from Kamracing, Inners look like £30ish each for TRW as well.

Wouldn’t waste your money on official renault parts when OEMs are the same parts for cheaper

Look on the forum for "near side knock" the noise can also be the bottom ball joints or lower arm rear bush or the top mount on the front shock. Look for a pothole and get the work paid for, I don't know about availability but the front steering rack comes complete with inner and outer track rod ends and might be about the same money, if you are new to Renault sports only order parts by their part number not as described or on motor factor lookups most of the time you will be handed the wrong part. Find a Renault specialist they are normally faster and reliable finding the problems and might have fixed prices for certain jobs.
