How to remove Powerflex upper engine mount insert?

I've recently purchased a Clio 200 with powerflex upper engine mount insert fitted. As others here have discussed, the vibrations from it are a bit uncivilised and I'd rather go back to stock. Obviously since I didn't fit it, I don't have fitting instructions and have spent a lot of time trying to find out the OEM part to replace it. I've now come to the conclusion that it may be additive only - i.e. I can remove it and the remaining mount will be functionally complete.

Does anyone here know? I'd imagine some of you fitted it yourself and would know well. Also, if I'm right, is there a torque value that the bolt needs to be tightened to?

Go easy on me, I know what a lot of the words above mean without necessarily having a clue what I'm talking about!

Hey bud, welcome to the forum! Firstly, is that the only Powerflex engine mount? The reason being is that the main engine mount (underneath the torque mount) is more prone to causing vibrations. Also what colour is the Powerflex mount?

If you do want to change the mount I would be inclined to buy the whole torque mount. The reason being on the OEM setup the rubber seems bonded into the metal mount. There is also a metal style cap over the end which is pressed into place (I had to cut mine off when fitting the Powerflex bush) and lastly the bolt is different (I think) If its the only Powerflex mount you will loose some solidness and feeling, the torque mount mod does really improve the feeling of the car.

I hope that helps bud.

The torque mount, lower mount and upper insert are all fitted.

From what I've read here, it is the upper insert that causes the worst of the vibrations and so that's the one I'd like to remove.

Im not sure which one is which, I have the dogbone mount (under car towards back of engine), gearbox mount (under the battery box), main engine mount (drivers side under torque mount and torque mount.

I fitted the dogbone bush and gearbox mount shortly after the torque mount, the vibrations increased significantly. Given 500-1000 miles the vibrations have reduced.

The very nice customer service department at Powerflex confirmed that all you have to do is remove the existing insert. So I got my mechanic to do so and indeed, the horrible vibration is gone. As an unexpected bonus I now have at least some bass in the cabin. I can only imagine that the poor speakers were picking up so much vibration from the insert that they couldn't correctly vibrate themselves.

If anyone here is a member in Perth, Australia, has a Clio 200/197 and no fondness for their fillings, I have a big piece of yellow polyurethane you can have for free.

No it isn't.

That insert replaces the OEM one which has a metal collar (you bend the tabs and remove the collar, then the bush comes out).

So you will need a new arm, I had to do the same thing.

You might want to ask if someone wants to swap an OEM for your one + some cash your way, it's really easy to unbolt and do.
Mate thanks for this, who know what I'd have done just ripping the mount out!

As said above, to get the How To section and Sale sections you need to be a paid member, it's very cheap and worth it, some very good How To Guides, this forum has been so helpful

Ok, I should have been clearer. Your picture shows two powerflex inserts. The lower of the two is the one that creates the vibration. That one absolutely can be removed and not replaced with anything - I know, I did it (well my mechanic did).

So you are on about the "Engine mount"? If so then yes you are correct, just take out the insert.
But the pic is dominated by the "Torque mount" (the purple and yellow bush), so this is where the confusion was, as you just about can see the engine mount insert in the pic.

Both, just so I'm sure the lower square shaped mount can be removed, with no replacement? If I take it out it'll be metal on metal, surely that's not good?

It won't be metal on metal, it's an open type bush, the insert goes into the gaps so it removes this compliance movement of the bush.

Also I don't see any pink writing, I see yellow and a greeny-blue colour, they are OEM markings when they bolt the mounts to the car, so they can see it doesn't loosen (if it loosened, then the lines wouldn't align).

Thanks! I took the bolts out last night but couldn't pull it off (although I was also trying to hold a torch!) . The colours I mentioned are printed writing on the cover. It names various colours. Just checking it wasn't referencing a mount insert.
Hopefully have it sorted tonight.
