Generic "what's this sound" post

Hello darkness, my old friend!

The return of my metallic squealing noise after a long absence, however it seems to have move towards the 2500/3000 RPM range, of which the noise can remain constant sitting on 3000RPM, 2nd gear.

Had a horrible moment coming out of the driveway where I live, had the harshest kangaroo experience I’ve had yet, managed to dip the clutch and restore normality! However this rattling/squealing sound has returned!

Getting it up on the lift tomorrow morning to have a look for any battle scars / loose heat shields!

Sorry to hear it's reared its ugly head again Ross. Here's hoping you can get to the bottom of it this time around.

Thanks Jimmy! I’m intrigued to see what I find underneath! Best case scenario it’s a bit of loose heat shield which is my initial thoughts, worst case scenario it’s coming from the cat / internals, but with an OEM exhaust I’d hope that’s not the case!

I’ll report back my findings!

An accurate representation of how I’ve driven home from work trying to determine the location of such rattle haha

Managed to capture it whilst moving in traffic at a traffic light running up to 3,000 revs in 1st, holding it and dropping back.

One of my heat shields dropped down some how and that caused a shit noise. But that was obvious when i looked under to see some hanging!

Good news, the rattle is no more since the welds been cleaned up so really chuffed!

Time to enjoy the weekend!

Thanks Shuv!

I cannot take credit for the weld however  one of dad’s work colleagues sorted it out! Dad claims he’s the best welder he’s seen in 40 years of engineering, so I had faith in him!

Half hour driving, and all is back to normal!

Damn. I was then writing-up your contract too  **I did guess you perhaps hadn't done it yourself.

Glad to hear it was such an easy fix though. You can turn the stereo down a bit now.........

Great result Ross, must be a huge weight off your mind! As you say, temporary fix, however it could well tempt you down the road of a nice aftermarket number  a damn sight cheaper than a replacement OEM :grimacing:
