Garage took my R32 home...

If you're having coilovers fitted, it has to be test driven. So the same applies?

what ragged from cold, ?

thats totally different, if your having coils fitted of course they will test drive it,

that aint the same as taking the car home for the night when its suppose to be locked up somewhere safe in a garage, ?

I don't understand your point? Wether it's driven to the guys house, or test driven, there's no reason to assume it'll be ragged from cold?

Why isn't it the same? If it's secure and insured, there is no difference. At all.

Its the whole point of the matter that it is has been trusted in there hands to have the coilies fitted and tested in a test drive, not taken home because there isn't room in at their building.

If there wasn't room to accommodate his vehicle they shouldn't have taken the job on board at that particular time.

i wouldnt be happy at all :@

i aint putting fuel in and paying road tax for a garage owner to use it as a shuttle taxi.....do you honestly think it will have only 1 road test if its being worked on and used to ferry the manager home!!!!

should always be consulted on your private vehicle useage - bit like just changing parts and billing you without asking permission to do it...

taking the car to a garage to have some work done and them testing it after is fine (common practise),

taking your car to a garage to have some work done which might have to be left overnight ( at the garage ) is fine,

but to then find out that they took it home because they had no room is bullocks tbh mate.

if someone done that to my car i wouldnt be a happy bunny. :ban:

thats my 2 pence worth anyway.

I'd have been p!ssed that they'd not given me any indication that my car might be stored elsewhere, no matter wether it was the bosses driveway or not. But, at the same time, I'd be glad of their honesty and the fact that they seem to have taken some care to make sure my car would be safe and not left outside a garage overnight.

If there's any issues when you pick it up, kick up a royal fuss. Otherwise, I'd say just have a polite word about can they keep you informed on it's whereabouts next time.

Yes there is, the car was dropped off at the company to be worked on, not as the bosses taxi.

If there wasn't space available for the car, they shouldn't have accepted it, or arranged for it to be collected by the customer. A simple phone call may have prevented undue stress.

Yes they were honest about it, but this blasé attitude you have to why he is upset in the first place amazes me. Its his car, his money and his business. And I'd be just as p*ssed off as well. If there communication and attitude to customer cars is like this, it might be worth finding another garage.

Next time leave next to no petrol in it. They won't get far and you might find more petrol in your car then when you left it

I've had someone rag my car when it was dropped off to have some new tyres on it. Was not pleased as it was around the corner from my house and I saw it shoot past at well above the speed limit...
I would hate anyone driving any of my cars unless they had asked or I had allowed them to and doing something like speeding in it is beyond the limit. There is no way of knowing how the car was handled.

Taking it home overnight is a major no no. I'd say complain about it once it is back in you are picking it up. Stating you were not made aware that this was a possibility and you consider it a huge risk to your car.

tbh, they probs wouldn't have told him if he didn't need to go back to get the medicine....

If I had used the specialist before and trusted them then I'd be fine about it.

In your case I would of wanted a phone call before he took it. When you go to pick it up, have a chat with the bloke and say he went about it the wrong way.. don't get angry though. Find out how far he lives away and get petrol monies.

Also, where was his car left if there was no room at his garage?

My attitude is simple. It's just a car. If the standard of work is good, if the car is returned in the condition it was left, with extra miles that make sense in the context of a test drive, it really doesn't matter.

If the work isn't of a good standard, or if the mileage is not acceptable, or there's a new issue with the car, those are reasons to not use them again. But otherwise, he'd be walking away from a specialist with a good reputation within the owners scene. And they are pretty thin on the ground in all honesty.

Curley, has Fred taken you out in your car after it's had work done?

Again, missing the point. This was BEFORE work was done, and should not have happened. I think most people would agree to a road test after having work done.
