Front End Damage

Hi all,

Was walking into a restaurant last night when some idiot decided to reverse into the front of my Clio at a fair speed. I heard a massive crack and bang (obviously the impact) but the bumper seems okay on closer inspection this morning. I know it's extremely tight behind the bumper and was wondering, is there anything just behind the bumper that may need checking before I go back to the prick saying it's okay?

Only thing mechanical behind there to worry about is the rad, and a/c condenser rad if you have ac

But I’d whip the bumper off I’d recon if it was a decent whack the crash bar will be bent and some of you panel gaps will have changed ie the bonnet to bumper gap

If the crash bar is bent it's a piece of piss to remove and refit, just 4 13mm bolts.
It would have to be one he'll of a whack to damage the rads, if the front bumper isn't completely smashed then the rads will be fine.

Really sorry to hear this Ben, the last thing you needed at Xmas (or any time of the year for that matter!).

I can't offer any technical advice, but hopefully the answers above will ease your mind a bit. At least you got all the details of the idiot that hit you - there are so many terrible drivers around!!

Those things last forever, will withstand an RTA easy.

Bummer about the clio, however could work to your advantage getting your paint sorted...silver lining n all that!

My friend said to me after it happened, "I didn't know you had that in you..."

Kev, I'm off to the bodywork guy at Hullavington Airfield in the morning to get it looked at, see his opinion on it. If it warrants a respray, that's what it'll get!

I've spoke to the kid, he's happy to pay for any damage he's said.

I don't want to blow it out of proportion and for obvious reasons not fancying going through insurance for a bumper!

I shit his passenger up I think...I was just walking into a restaurant, was parked right outside the door. Heard the bang and was straight up to his n/s door.

I was pretty calm about it after he got out his car, if I hadn't been able to drive away it might have been a slightly different story!

Not good Ben! I was with my mate in Le Mans when a French local gave the front of his 197 a whack, the only thing to note was the black mesh grill at the bottom of the bumper had become loose, but it was a case of clipping it back on!

Hopefully nothing too serious, i remember the sound on my mate and it sounded so much worse than the resulting damage!

Yep my grille is the same! Detached at the bottom so will get my hand behind and get it back in place!

Yeah the noise was awful. I thought by the sound of it, the whole front end was smashed up...on the plus side I've just checked the pics of his car and he smashed one of his rear lights haha..

Won't post anything on here until it's all sorted just in case I do have to go down the road of contacting Flux! Luckily the kid does seem pretty cooperative. Small mercies, eh?

Sorry to hear the trouble you’ve had mate. Get it inspected and put it to the other party to see what he wants to do. Insurance claim even if non fault would be a no no for me.

sorry to hear mate..probably some plastic bits must have snapped..something like this happened to me on my rear..a few bits snapped and i found them under the car later...
