Filling up with fuel with the car ON

Hi All,

Someone where I work has asked me this because I also own a Clio - but I have no idea....

Basically, they've filled up their mk3, 1.2 turbo Clio without turning the car off.

When they got back in, the fuel needle hadn't moved despite putting £20 in.

Now the petrol light is on and the car thinks it's empty.

What will happen?
What's wrong?

Any help would be super!

Cheers all,

Tom.

What's wrong is he is a muppet and filled up with the engine running.

Tell him to do it properly.

I was going to post this on ClioSport but didn't because I knew they'd not be very helpful and be sarcastic...

It's been restarted a few times now. Still the same fault.

But that's what was wrong and what he needs to do. Not being sarcastic just adding humour into the solution so you can rib him

Might have to reset the trip as well but not sure as I'm not a muppet and never been in that situation.

The only reason I can see for leaving the engine running is if you are filling up and doing one without paying

the level sensor in the tank only takes the level in the tank when first turning the ignition/engine on, when driving the needle goes down from information from the trip computer.
