Enhancement Detail - Scirocco GT

Luke, apologies for the delay in doing this write up...

I did this car a couple of weekends ago, on what must have been one of the windiest days of the year, so had to battle with constant debris falling from the over hanging tree! It was also the first VAG that I've attempted to correct 'in a day' and it's probably my last - with hard German paint it's near impossible to sort it out fully in 8 hours or so, it's simply too hard, requiring either heavy compounding then refinement, or multiple passes.

Luckily, this Scirocco was in very good condition to begin with, so I soldiered on, and did what I could within the agreed timescale. I am however going to return to sort some of the RDS's out which I couldn't on the day, after a training session with KDS.

So, on to the detail...

As ever, I started with my usual process:

- Wheels, Arches and Tyres with G101 with various brushes
- Bodywork with Optimum Shampoo
- Tar treated with Tardis
- Fallout treated with Decon Gel
- Clayed with Elite Polyclay
- Rewashed with Optimum and dried with Uber Drying Towels.

As said before, the car was VERY clean and VERY well looked after, with obvious evidence of wax on both bodywork and wheels, along with very clean shuts and sills and minimal tar and fallout.

The clay didn't pick up much at all either:

Paint readings were taken all over the car, and were averaging a typical VW reading of 150 or so:

The paintwork was in very good condition also, but its glossiness was being robbed by the swirling all over the car, for example:

I spent a fair amount of time trying to find the perfect combo, but settled on Megs 105 on a Megs Cutting pad. Megs 105, although a relatively heavy compound, finishes down VERY well on harder paints such as VW's, so luckily I was able to obtain a great finish using one polish. Ideally, given more time, I would like to refine with 205, but given that I only had a day, I believe the results to be very good.

I finished up with:

- 20/20 on the glass
- CG New Look Trim Gel on tyres and plastics
- Colli 845 on the wheels
- Supernatural Hybrid on the paintwork and door shuts

A frustrating one this, but I was relatively happy with the outcome. I'm moving into a unit soon, so no more issues with rain, and indeed wind, fingers crossed!!

Thanks again Luke for the opportunity to do your car

Cheers,

Russ.

Love the deep reflections, it brings back memories of having a black car. I bet you're enjoying that again aren't you

Yeh it does Russ, but i'm waiting on a anti-corrision warranty claim with renault at the moment, as I have got a slight bit of blistering on the paint on my boot, heard of a few people that have had this, soon as thats done I will want mine doing

I had that beginning on my R27, on the top edge of the boot??

Just kick off at Renault UK, they HATED me after having two iffy cars!!

Sure is, heard of so many people that have had it, apparently the glass is too close to the paint, or so i've been told! It's just waiting approval off them now as I've taken it to a place to get it looked at and pictures taken!
Do you find that UR also chips very easily?

Thinking of getting you to do mine Russ, with the weather being a pain, the lack of a machine and also time, I keep driving the car with the paint problems I have. I need to get the paint to a good level so I can put some protection on it and then keep on top of it. But finding the time to remove the small scratches on the roof, the various bits on the drivers side and the stone chips is proving to be very difficult. Then I need to find somewhere to get the chips on the bumper from the wall I hit. But again, don't have the time to go to a repair place.

That looks like it has came out awesome! I know theres swirls in the before photos but it was very shiny even then!
