edited: dodgy pas belt. (not gearbox)

Yup fully into reverse, this noise has occurred 4 times in the last two days reversing into my drive.

It's not happening every time or all the time. I reverse back onto my drive over a little curb and then I hear it. Almost sounded like there was metal catching the curb as I went up. Nothing visible underneath to suggest this was the case though.

May not even be gearbox related at all

Happened again this morning whilst reversing at work. gear fully engages fine...awful noise again

popping to garage on Saturday morning to have a nosey...they seemed a bit stumped

other suggestions ive had have been gearbox leg or something loose

Pas doesnt have a belt as its electric not hydraulic with a pump that runs of aux belt.

So could it be the motor? or is it the rack?

You'd hear it loud in the cabin if it were the motor as thats on the column just behind the dash (where your knees are). Is it louder outside than inside?

very strange!

wonder if it could be one of the perfo-hub ball joints being slightly worn and dry...
