E46 M3 CS

Perhaps... He's only mentioned figures once and that was before it went in so maybe that was worst case for new parts. But he did say he was rebuilding with uprated parts.

From what he's said theres a lot of them that this has happened to and the new parts that BMW supply are different to what it came from factory - so theres no way he would put anything old in there.

His second car right now is an 135i... He's had a porsche, audi rs4, countless fast bmws...

Yes sorry ///m e60 - I'm not clued up on all these confusing e numbers bmw does (apart from e30, e46 and e90 m3s lol)

Quick bit of Googling suggests some er.......possible exaggeration......from your neighbour on the rebuild costs if its being done with original parts to original spec.

Unless of course he's having this built to an even more serious spec than the factory ?

Also the lowest mileage and most expensive car for sale on ebay right now is only £17.5k, or Autotrader has a 2 owner 55k example for just £15.5k.

Exactly what I was thinking mate... But if it's gone to a specialist, and he's having something properly built, who knows. A Manhart airbox could do you in for around £3k for a start. He may have done £3k on a new exhaust plus another £3k on a manifold. Then mapping is going to be clear of a grand. Not even got to the engine yet and you're needing £10k.

Totally plausible for a mental build but it would need to be pretty top top spec!

Even going the donor car route if you wanted a low low miles car, you'd be looking £25k maybe towards £30k.

Point is we need specs and info right?

Will do a bit of investigating next time he's here (his mum is my next door neighbour) he lives in London.

Ok had a chat with him today.

apologies - its the m6 not the m5 - but its the same engine, the V10.

So its the cam seal that went, which he did go into it but I didnt really follow too closely but it meant the engine ran dry and bent the crankshaft - along them lines. He didnt say how much it was costing him nor did I ask.. but this place in newcastle has had a very long waiting list which he has been on and its now being done in march.

If its done in time he's taking it too kevs favourite place in the world.

Taa for the update mate. I'm sure that's not been anything like a cheap job but I hope it comes back fit as a fiddle and ready to go.

Not a fan of the M6 personally, but still, WHAT an engine!

It was a minter. Nice set of wheels, could of been a CS.

Always a shame but even worse when it's a nice one.

If it's a CS it's almost certain it would have been on CSL rims as they're a real trophy to have with them being OEM from the factory.

Love your car Mes and pics don't do it justice. It's so mint is unreal lol! And that sound..

My only criticism about the E46 M3 (which is my favourite M3 by the way) is the long gear ratios, third gear simply goes forever!

Thanks mate.

You're right about third gear, if I was going to keep it, there would have been a 4:10 diff in there by now.

Kev is right. I'm VERY confused. My main problem is every time I drive this car I think I'd be totally crazy to sell it!

That's the problem with owning a modified car - when the time comes to buy a new car you always end up feeling that it doesn't handle as well as the last car, or is as fast as the old car etc etc etc so you invariably end up modifying the new one trying to chase the feeling of the old car.
Unless you find some mega special which offers something the BMW doesn't, I'd keep it.
