Declaring an Akrapovic on Insurance

Hey guys,

Following my previous thread, potentially stupid question.. Would you declare an Akrapovic as a cosmetic modification or performance?

Bit naughty potentially, but I was thinking cosmetic as the gains are theoretical and not massive.

I would declare it in some way. I don't think I was given an option of cosmetic or performance??

I declared my Cobra but wasn't offered a choice of how to class the modification. They said if gains less than 10% it wouldn't affect premium. Even after a remap @ RS Tuning it makes less than Renault claim so I'd tell them as I wouldn't expect it to be an issue. I think Akra gains under 10% anyway.

I definitely want to declare it, just for piece of mind, apart from the noise the tips are bit of a giveaway.

Ive been asked in the past before if the modifications effect the performance, when I had my previous clio 200 and had a scorpion which I had stated that it doesn't. But admiral weren't as clean cut between cosmetic and performance as Aviva it seems. Just don't want to pay a premium when I don't have to haha!

Yeah that's a fair argument, I think elephant asked me that when I changed the exhaust on my GT86, I think I'm probably ok going with cosmetic then. When I put the Akra on I'll confirm it with Aviva that it doesn't really have an effect on power etc

After my upgrades I deaclared them all...

It started so well, on the website you can just add some mods the exhaust i did there, induction kit and there was no charge for it.

I then had to call them to decalre the other stuff...yeh that was a royal pain in the back side I was on the phone for an hour plus as he kept referring to underwriters. I had to literally explain why I had harness installed, why the remap, why cams, he had a real issue with the roll cage he kept asking the same question, why, why, why...in the end i got quite angry and said im not stupid if i wanted to track my car i would get track day insurance, mood changed and he said thats exactly what the underwriters wanted to hear. F&^%($g madness, I started to think this was gping to get expensive, he eventually came back and said its an extra £5 a month...all that fuss, will look at a specialist insurance next time its due.

Never had these problems on any of my other modified cars..

Never had any problems declaring everything I had done, however I went to a specialist insurer who deals with performance cars, not your usual meerkat companies.
Like Johnny 99 mentioned, after my remap I got back what had been lost due to renault over egging there laboratory test figure. I explain this to them and they understood, i think I even sent them my remap curves to prove it.
