Dashboard Display - What Does It Do?

What does the small car display on the dashboard do?

I can see that when I open a door, or the boot, the display changes and indicates something is open. But apart from that I have not see it do much.



I was playing Forza 7 the other day and when I was in a Clio 200 the Xbox showed the display indicating the gear I was in. Should the display show what gear I am in or do anything else?

I’ve heard it also shows you (minimal) info if you’ve got a compatible TPMS system but I’ve not seen this myself. It definitely doesn’t do anymore than you’ve observed.

I have thought about getting a microcontroller (after looking at one of those canbus mileage blocker devices and how they work) to try and get the current gear displayed, or to find a small screen to put in front of the one pictured but don’t have the time at the moment. Would be interested to see if anyone else has done something useful with it/instead of it.

As said it doesn't do much, most of the symbols are for automatic transmission...
