200: Clio History?

Hi everyone. I have recently purchased a Clio 200. Registration MX59WZN.
It is my first 200 but I have previously owned a 182 FF and a 182 Trophy.

I love the way the car drives but I am disappointed in the performance even in comparison to my previous Clio 182's it just feels quite flat and seems to take a long time to rev out. It also knocks when accelerating in 1st gear and a little in 2nd gear.

I would just like to know if anyone on the forum knows about the vehicle or if there have been previous threads featuring this car?

Having done some digging myself I believe it may have a Toyosport manifold (perhaps explains the knocking) a mid pipe with a sports cat and a standard back box. But I can't be sure what parts it has as any modifications aren't detailed in it's history just the servicing and service items.

Any information anyone may have would be a great help.

The 182s definitely feel like they have more torture probably down to them carrying less weight. The 200s do have to be reved hard to get them shifting aswell. About the knocking it could be on standard mounts still, Powerflex mounts cured mine

It may feel flat if the decat hasnt been mapped in, these are a bit flat compared to the 182s and they really dont start kicking in until 3k+ A bit of weight saving, a few mods and a good service certainly helps, depending on the model removing some of the stock tool kit (engine hoist mounts) and the ISOfix bar will save 5kg+ straight off the bat, 200 Cup alloys are 1kg lighter per alloy than the 197 alloys and Speedlines, etc. These are a bit more mature than the 182s and 172s, both in terms of looks, interior and middle aged spread!

Sorry for the delay replying to you! Yeah I was really surprised just how long it takes to get in it's stride! My 182 Cup didn't feel any faster just a bit better low down but I am fairly sure my old Trophy, which had no rear seats and a decat pure mototrsport exhaust would have pulled away quite strongly from the 200. I can feel a diet and a remap coming on...

Any useful tips on weight loss without going to massive expense welcome! I got as far as removing rear seats and ISOfix bar and getting a lightweight battery.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I don't think the car has ever had a remap. It certainly doesn't drive like it and it has a full engine back sports exhaust now because I have added a Scorpion cat back system to see if that helps. My next move is to take it to my local independent specialist and ask them to give the car a full inspection including checking the timing, as it had both belts done just over a year ago. Assuming everything gets the OK from them I am going to add a V6 Airbox, panel filter and smaller battery (because unfortunately I can't afford an R3 Airbox) and then take it for a short trip down the road to RS tuning and get it all mapped in. I will be holding my breath for a figure starting with a 2... maybe that's optimistic??

I'm glad in some respects that it is a more mature car than the 182's because I'm coming back to one of these from some fairly nice German machinery so its already a bit of a shock to the system but some weight definitely has to go. I want to try and get that feisty fun feeling back that the 182's had.

perhaps different level would be a better description, as a trophy 182 is excellent in itself, but doesn't inspire confidence as much as the 200 cup, where if you get a brown trouser moment and the bend tightens up, just turn it more and it goes round

Olliep on various clio forums, has a 182 trophy, had various meganes, 197's etc... have a feeling he has a Renault alpine on the way I worked for his brother in law so I drove his car a fair bit when doing various jobs, including dampers so ive driven one fresh out the box so to speak, and while the 182 trophy is the nearest thing to a 200cup ive driven its still edged I reckon, and a mates 182 cup was not as good, we also used to do a fair bit for the megane owners club for a while then we went out of fashion for whatever reason and they handle extremely well, if not quite as nimble although I never drove them in anger I will admit being a customers car, ollies was fine as hes a mate although ive not driven it properly hard like the 200 I now own
