CLIO 197 CUP - Project TF

Also, I am based quite near Rickyrpm (South Yorks). Does anyone have experience in dealing with him? I have messaged him on instagram and he seems decent enough to deal with ! Or if anyone else has other recommendations for specialists around the north?

Ricky is great and definitely knows his stuff, I've been using him for a few years now. He sorted the gearbox bearings/cambelt service on my old 275 plus fitted some Bilstein B14's and he recently did new clutch, flywheel and cambelt etc on my now old R26 that I've just sold.

He can be a bit hard to get hold of (seems like you have done well speaking on Instagram) but he is just a one man operation, if you can get booked in then his work is always been very good for me - Great bloke too with a genuine interest in the cars, always good to have a chat with when dropping off/collecting

Thank you for this. Do know how much he charges for belts?

I'm running the yellow speed coilovers on my 197 with the track spring rate, 8kg front 7kg rear, and they seem pretty good from what I can tell. I know a lot of the Honda guys use them too and I haven't heard anything bad. The dampening adjustment makes it bearable when driving to the track, the camber maxed out is about -2.4 or there abouts, that is what I got when aligning the car. I haven't a massive experience to compare against but that's my two cents

Just doing some late night searching looking for some minor mods for the car. I am struggling to find a definitive answer regarding whether a panel filter or full induction kit would be be the better option for the car? My gut feel based off of previous experience with Mk7 fiesta st's (I'm getting the word....) and mini's says panel filter. What is the typical set up ran on track? The car already has a miltek cat back as a breathing mod.

I have also seen people fitting the V6 airbox to these. Is this an OEM plus style mod? Or does it actually have a positive performance gain?

A good friend has also recommended that fresh CUP dampers with H&R is a very good set up and would be preferred over something like KTR coils as "budget friendly" option. What are peoples thoughts to this?

I have a look at some of your guys build threads (not fully so apologies if my questions have been answered there) and respect them. Or in the case of RSrowe followed on instagram for a while it turns out LOL . So your opinions would be appreciated.

Definitely h&r springs and cup dampers if you want some minor mods. I had them on my megane and were good enough. I've got ktr induction kit, didn't notice any increase in power but noise is nice

Just to update where the car is currently as I have not updated in a while and have a couple of questions as well!

The car is currently in with RickyRPM this week for Belts and serving work doing. Really impressed talking with him and seeing some of his work, so I was happy to leave the car with him- will update when the car is collected.

Still looking at planning mods for the car too.
So far I have decided that at K-Tec racing induction is required on the car purely and simply to have some with noise and if there is no real loss on power too then I am happy . A V6 airbox would be great but that will have to wait as simply put. I cannot be arsed moving the battery. :tearsofjoy:
Suspension- I am still undecided what to do and might be a case of seeing what deals arise or what comes up second hand!

Cage- I am leaning towards a hlaf cage again- from what I can tell more Renaultsport cars end with SW motorsprot cages. Is there a reason for this?

Seats- previously I ran Sabelt seats in my R53 which I loved. They have sadly stopped making the seat I ran- GT 090. But I am not too disheartened as I want to run fibreglass/gel seats in this car regardless. The question becomes- is there any limitation to the size of seat that can be ran in clios? As Mini's can only run select seats due to space constraints.

There should be a few Black Friday deals about. I managed ot get 25% of some Corbeau Seats this week in their sale. K-Tec and other places often do some discounts this time of the year.

For half cages most Clios here have either got a SW Motorsport cage or a JP Cage.

To answer your question about seats. That's a pair of GT090s in there!
That's also an SW Motorsport half cage, I went with that because it goes to the rear arches rather than the isofix bar, in my mind it looks a bit better and to be fair I can store a pair of wheels under the cage itself.
There's a video on the newest posts in my project thread with noise from the car too, Scorpion exhaust and a KTR intake, it's very induction heavy!

Perfect!! Great to know they fit! I have some where to start with seats! I will take a look at the cage too!

Just watched the video on you thread, the car sounds amazing! Do you ever get issues with noise on trackdays?

Never had an issue. Static was 92db at the last trackday and driveby has never tripped the sound meter, even at Bedford and they're hot on driveby limits.

Just wnated to do a quick updated with the car.

Car has been serviced with new gearbox oil, belts, dephaser ETC. Collected the car and felt an improvement with the car from that alone. Car feels silky smoot with silky smooth gear changes. Really happy with the service from RickyRPM.

I am just in the mist of sorting little jobs out before the cars first trackday next weekend at Blyton. But I have been slightly scene and took the car to the collecting cars meet at Donington. Slightly disappointing event all things considered but managed to look around a few 197s and couple of V6s too

I have also bought some parts from K-Tec in their black friday sale! I went for their own coilovers (as a starting point- the cost was similar to springs alone in the end). If they are pants they will be moved on! I am also going to be ordering silverproject topmounts for these as well to give camber adjustability. In addition the coilovers I purhcased a panel filter too as an interim until I can properly sort a V6 airbox . All in all happy with the quality of the parts for the price but will update when the coilovers are on the car! The panel filter has been fitted and some pretty good noises considering the cost was £21ish with discount.

I was also looking at the silver camber tops but got told that they are not strong and they personally had seen quite a few that were bent from use. Just keep you eyes on them.
