Check your scuttle drain!

So I was doing a full decontamination on Saturday. Happily removing leaves and grime from anywhere I could access before claybaring the whole car, I unclipped the scuttle panel and low and behold a blocked drain... wiper motors swimming, electrics doing backstroke, the odd water boatman casually gliding by! Horrified! I thought the car felt damp the other day when I was installing my sub, turns out, It was!

Quick plunge and a short time later it sounded like the car was doing a wee, but seriously guys, if you've never done it... check the drain.

It's one of them jobs that so easily gets forgotten but can cause such heartache when it goes wrong. I only bought the car in August so I'm still working through it, glad I decided to stand outside in the freezing cold on Sunday now [emoji23]

Checked mine at the weekend and all clear thankfully.

My previous LY 200 had both blocked!!

Before buying mine i looked at one in Hailsham and he told me he had had this problem also. Good simple advice

MY issue is, every time i check it i can never get the B*****d window wipers to fit in the right position first time round! :excited:

What wiper removal tool do people recommend using? Don't want to use brute force on the wipers and end up with a cracked windscreen.

WD40 and your hand. I sprayed some, left it 5 mins, then wiggled it below the pivot so there wasnt much pressure on the windscreen. I ended up putting the drivers side in the wrong position but it worked to my benefit as it now clears more of the windscreen in front of me! :jimmy:

Might actually have to have another check at the drains tonight again myself. Too many bloody trees about my house!

Similar to above but I use a spanner to angle under it and use my hand as a pivot to pry it up a bit (be very careful you don't skip and hit the bonnet!)

I'll try get a pic later if I do it

I took my wipers off last week and found it reasonably simple to get them off.

I folded them away from the screen and then just waggled the wiper a bit til it came off the splines.
No drama.

As said, painters tape on the screen or a couple of mark on the splines/wiper body to line them up.
Put them back on in their 'off the screen' position again, then lower the blade down on to the glass.

How many people have kept there small rubber tubes for the drainage holes ?

Mine are both missing but drains and scuttle are fully clean and clear and have all been wiped down.

I no longer run the plastic scuttle. Removed for easy access and visible top mounts but it means it gets cleaned every time the car is washed and the drains cleaned out with the jet wash.

yeah smart..was thinking of this too..

Took Clio to Sean Edwards in Shirley today to get a duplicate key card and whilst he was doing (2 cards for £110 as the original was on the way out) I asked how easy it was to clear the scuttle drains?

He said that access was easy but I would need to put a air gun down them to properly clear 10 years gunk!

Then he said he would do them for nothing .It was just as well as the water level was dangerously high!

I reckon I was lucky and just in time!
