Chassis refresh

Time has come the R27 needed some work done, amazed by how solid the suspension is on these cars, just at close 90 k km had these parts done for the first time, and some of them were actually in a good shape still, just got replaced since parts were cheap

Had a NSF spring broken, so thought about going the B14s route, eventually went for the cheaper option being new cup dampers set front and rear + new eibach springs.

New top mounts also in at the same time.

Had a slight knock on the hub joints so did both upper and lower on both sides of the car.

While at it, replaced the wishbone anti-rotation links and the anti-roll bar links.

Also fitted braided HEL brake lines.

That leaves me to the wishbones and the rack, but both seem in a good shape as they are now.

Just last week had the brakes done, the brakes would catch temperature very quickly when braking from higher speeds and were on a few occassion surprised by close to zero stopping power.... it was so inconsistent that I actually did suspect a brake pump or the abs unit, but then had a chance to take it on a track and it proved to be temperature related as both pads and discs were close to its minimums.

So took the front discs, the drilled brembo xtra while the rears where some SNR branded solid discs, had the rear ones painted with the VHT Caliper paint and put them on with standard road use brake pads, Ate for the front and TRW for the rear. New pins for the front calipers as well.

Planning to have a few trackdays this year so will then just get a set of DS3000 for the front, guess that should be enough.

Drives like a new car again!

Be careful on track with drilled discs... lots on here use solids as they have a tendency to crack with heat around the holes... most just go for high carbon Brembo solid discs for this reason I presume, or g hook discs if serious about track work

I've basically just done the same

B14'S
Top mounts
Anti rotation links
Drop links
Lower ball joints
Inner track rods
Track rod ends
Steering rack bush
Powerflex control arms with better condition ball joints

But still something seems off with the car [emoji24]

@LOCKE - just checked the pics I put in the gallery, but it doesnt show, I wasnt actually thinking about taking a pic of them, but will at the nearest occasion

@Dumdum - thanks for the tip... I heard of issues when people used the OEM drilled discs, these I believe are a bit better, or am I being naive ?

@lewishunter98 - B14's - :thumb:

Went through an MOT equivalent tech check yesterday and all went ok

Fitting a set off grams spring and top mounts on mine tomorrow hopefully, any tips for removing the fronts ?

I’ve seen hairline tiny cracks round enough drilling’s to make me exercise caution, not all though, just keep an eye on them

Yep will keep an eye on them, hopefully brembo has had enough time to maybe sort the issue, as these I recall were a problem on the R26 230s, and the 250 anyway, not much track time I guess will be put into them as basically we dont have a lot of them around... maybe I will do 3 or 4 20 minute sessions on one nearby, guess it shouldnt kill them as it didnt even kill the half used Michelin PS4 on one 20 minutes run the last time I went

How do you find the Eibach springs - was thinking of getting some as got a broken spring on my R27, imagine ride is better being progressive but are they stiff enough to improve handling too ?

Didn't notice much difference to be honest, do recall having felt the difference when I did the same op on my previous 197, but at that time I went from non cup to cup + eibach, and that was a night and day,
