Car Overcooling Problems

My car wont heat itself up anymore, the hottest it gets is the first line on the temp gauge and a couple mil more when the cars sitting still and running.

Performance and MPG doesnt seem to be affected but its bloody annoying.

Any ideas??? ( Fan is not stuck on i checked ).

Mine never gets to the top Ben always sits about halfway between the first and second bars , it doesn't sound quite as low as yours but Ive never been able to find a problem and Renault said it was ok when I asked during the last service. TBH I think its just another one of those things...

Its only just started doing it though lol, first time in a year of service. Its so irregular too though, like when i sit still it raises up then when im rolling down a hill its nearly at its lowest reading on the gauge. :s

Does the thermostat fail in the open position though ?

Mine still revs upto the redline...

your assuming the guage is showing correctly - could be temperature sender

do thermostats fail on clio3 ?

you can soon tell if its failed by under bonnet temps - hoses to the rad should stay cold until the stat opens and then you can feel the hoses getting hot

I've seen a couple of stuck stats on 197's - including on Kevs car. It's certainly a possible failure and if you measure the temp of the top rad hose this should give you some idea of if its failed or not. Around 65 degrees or so and it's like to be a stuck open stat!

Just paid £40 for a thermostat from Renault!!!

Still a luvely motor, how'd you lower it? looked decked and them black on blue wheels were decent choice

Thermostat is not the faulty item, going to have to take it to renault next week and wait another 3 weeks for parts. Joy.

Temp gauge needle will just not stay still. It just moves right to left at mid gauge with about 3mm, driving me crazy!

Any suggestions mechanic people? before i drive it into a lake and claim the insurance money lol

Any chance of an air lock?

Could someone get a pic of their temp gauge up on where the needle sits with the ignition OFF.

I need to know if you can see the first white line on the far left or if the needle covers it at tis stationary position, thanks.

could be have you had a coolant change recently? the only other drastic thing it could be is a head gasket? that sometimes causes iratic temps?

No oily deposits in coolant, and no mustard looking shit in oil. Car seems fine and no loss of power?

Do have a compression tester but sod doing that today cba. If its the head gasket renault can have it back for good lol.

Do you know where the needle sits mate when its not on?

ill check mine when i go out in abit and txt u a pic, is it not returning back to the bottom then? if its doing that it mite be a dodgy earth some where, did you do anything to the car before it started? taken something off? put somthing on?
