Cambelt Quotes - these a good price?

Hi all,

My next service is now overdue; this is the 5 year service which will include cambelt. My car is a '56 plate on 36000ish miles.

I have been quoted the following which includes:
Service - oil change & filter, pollen filter (n/a), air filter (n/a), spark plugs, fuel/oil additives (requested not be done)
Cambelt - cambelt kit, aux belt, water pump

Is there anything missing from the list above that is advised to do at this service/my age of car?

I was quoted:
TwoTechs Dartford - £756 all in now £640
Ren7oaks Sevenoaks - £820 all in now down to £700 Now down to £675 including a gearbox oil change with some Redline stuff I got from Opie

I am hoping to play one off the other and get a bit off of that, but does that sound reasonable for both the service and cambelt change baring in mind they are renaultsport specialists?

Any feedback on anyone who has used them before would also be appreciated.

Thanks, Josh

£650 at Birchdown for; Aux, Cam, Service, Dephaser, Water Pump.

Those prices aren't bad but you could get cheaper elsewhere depending in how far you're willing to travel. If I take the Dephaser and Water Pump off that then the price with Birchdown was just around £450 I think. That's with all genuine parts too by the way...

whats with the "oil/fuel" additives???

read the renault manual and it states they dont recommend additives - so get them knocked off the list!!!!

i had my cambelt etc by a renault dealer for "about" £500 all in.....
so looking at it that way you are then paying £250-£320 for a service on top!

the most expensive service items are the plugs....

when your doing the belts the oil can be draining and you have to remove the under tray to do the belts so can get at the filter as well

pollen filter is easy

room for a bit of a price drop i would say :foxspeed:

Cheers guys, I'll try and get it for under £700 in that case, thought it seemed a bit much. I can obviously knock off the air filter as I have an ITG one, the pollen filter I changed myself with an oil and oil filter change only 7/8 months ago do I can take that off too.

Is that all the recommended things listed above for the cambelt change? Will the dephaser pulley be part of that, or should I confirm with the garage?

for the cost have the oil and filter changed whilst its apart

changing the dephaser on the cambelt change isnt required - just get them to check it

*Update* I have managed to get Ren7oaks down to £700 incl Vat from £820. I will speak to Twotechs again who may be able to go even cheaper once they take all the parts off I don't need

That's more like it.

Haha it needed to be, it's been an expensive couple of months; discs, pads, HEL lines, wheel refurb to anthracite, tyres, H&Rs, callipers painted. I need to get some pics up when it's all done

Got Ren7oaks down to £675 including changing the gearbox oil; I bought some Redline stuff from Opie because I had the odd problem with very slight crunch when at high revs in 3rd. Never got round to changing it myself so figured I may as well get someone to do it properly. I assume this is probably about a £25/30 job so for the sake of an extra £10 or so on the TwoTechs price I have decided to go with Ren7oaks after receiving good feedback on Cliosport as well. (both had good feedback, but ren7oaks more-so)

Got my cam belt, aux belt plus 36000 service, main dealer £575. Got them to give me the old parts back just to have a look at the wear on the belts. Cam belt looks like new, no rounding of the teeth, aux on signs of cracking or very much wear. Car is 5 years with 34500 on the clock.

Pete.

Was that excluding the water pump? I don't expect the cambelt to be that worn at high 30000 miles and 5 years, but it's best not to take the risk, especially if you don't know whether it's had a hard life.

No water pump. I've had the car from new, given it some stick on occasions and serviced once a year cos it never gets to 12000 in a year.

Haha it wouldn't be worth owning one if you didnt give it stick on ocassions  But i'm the second owner; had it just over a year and it had done 26000ish when I got it, so I don't know how it was treated previously. I think the water pump is relatively expensive so my quote isn't too far off the price you got yours done for if mine includes water pump

Josh, After you get your belts done. Jump on the SE / london bit of the forum.

Trying to organise a Dyno morning....
