So you're saying 172 was faster than the 197?

And now you would like a R26?

A remapped R26 maybe?

Or a Megane 265?

Now think of it vs 172 in the corners...or even R26...it would destroy them (yes, I have a Quaife LSD, Clubsport's, ARB's, struts, DS2500 - but the point is - you can make of your car what you want if you put some effort/money in it).

Go figure...a high revving 180-185bhp N/A engine in a 1300kg car likes to rev and it doesn't run like a rocket...especially against the 160-170bhp also N/A car in an almost 300kg lighter chassis....hmmmh.

Only thing that makes 197 vs 172 competitive in a straight line is it's 6 speed gearbox with shorter gear ratios than the 172's 5 gear.

Also, I don't know if you have seen this ad: http://www.clio197.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49414

The 172 was just quicker off the mark. Absolutely no issues with a flat spot on my last one at all. Overall the 197 is quicker once warmed up thoroughly.

When you are on the Dales run take the parcel shelf of and drop your back seat's it will feel and sound much quicker. 8)

Can't beat a bit of placebo effect:thumbsup:

Idiots pair of ya!![emoji12]
Can you see my emoji? I can but not sure you can. In which case makes my response sound irate haha.

That the problem, the 197 or 200 is not cheap to run so that why put peoples off. They are great car and fun to drive, the running cost is like half way the clio v6.

Totally agree with this. The costs are high in comparison to some cars and I see a lot of comments on the forum with people saying they are falling out of love because of numerous repairs etc.

From a personal point of view, I went into 197 ownership with an open mind and fully expected to have to spend £££s on repairs and servicing. I even set up a standing order into an account specifically for the car! And I've had to use that account on several occasions.

However, it has not once put me off - mostly because I was prepared for it, but mainly because the 197 is an awesome driver's car, it makes me smile every single time I get behind the wheel and that sort of feeling is priceless when it comes to a car.

So in summary, I think you should give it a second chance Shells - you will love the roads on the Dales run; it will give you a chance to really stretch it's legs and see what it is capable of; you will see how enthusiastic everyone is about their own cars too. That should rekindle the fire and see that you keep it a bit longer.

Thanks Jimmy, I've already rekindled it a little bit with the subconscious reminding me im having swivel bearings and brake pads done soon haha. It's like a petulant child BUT there's only so many times you can reprimand and it listens, SO im hoping this is the last time this year! !!! ****!!@
Oh and that's a fab idea about an account for the car haha. I'm on it!
Can I take this opportunity to say I realise this thread ruffles some feathers, not my intention, after all these are my thoughts. Different horses different courses etc etc. I'm giving it a chance and I did enjoy a little run out in it yest, think I've been scared to thrash it too much because of new this and that. Anyway peace; )

I'm fairly certain that the Clio weighs in at 1204kg?

My stock 197 full with fuel without me = 1300kg.

My Clio with the Miltek, Ultras, KW V3 full with fuel = 1280kg

Now I have to weigh it again, but it should be at ~1250kg.

However, this weekend I've put another 30kg of weight back in the car.
