Bleeding the cooling System

Apologies for asking this, I have had a quick search but been unable to find an answer. To bleed the cooling system, is it just as straightforward as filling the system, running for a while with the cap off with spells of increased revs? cap back on when the engine is warming and then waiting for the cooling fan to kick in? (Obviously topping the levels up as they drop before replacing the cap.) I did this yesterday, heaters were nice and hot and temp gauge getting to normal point.

there are 2 bleed points -

one on one of the coolant pipes that go to the heater matrix - the ones that go to the bulkhead

the second is on the thermostat housing near the top hose - a small 10mm brass bolt type of thing!

they are there for a reason...so would say give it a quick bleed just to be sure!

One other question, would I open the bleed screws when the engine is up to temp and with the overflow cap fitted and engine running? Or am I best to do it with the cap off and engine running?
