Big Bens non Clio

Corrrr it sounds great mate, I bet the Garrett has really transformed the car… I’ll give up trying to keep up

Sounds great, I look forward to seeing it at Donington.

Is the oil cooler controlled by a thermostat or permanently open?

Permanently open. Can crudely gaffer tape it over as a quick fix if needed but I doubt it’ll be needed on track

Yeah this is my annoyance on the E36, I want to get an oil cooler but I want a thermostatic one, only "clean" option is the M3 oil filter/cooler setup, but as prices are not ridiculous I'm not paying that shit.

Yeah cardboard covering the filter works well if needed for normal driving.

Always developing and looking for solutions is part and parcel imo mate. Pinching ideas or creating your own it’s all part of ownership for me. It helps I have fairly low expectations for most stuff I have done:grinning:

Massive update Ben, Bonnet looks great!

I bet it's insane now.

I've just put a CG motorsport clutch plate in mine as the std R26r plate let go, it wore the splines away which is what my chatter in the box as the plate and flywheel are solid. Now no chatter at all.

Cheers Mark.
People often asked if it was quick and I’d sort of um and aah a bit. Now I’d just say yes it’s quick!

That CG plate looks good. If my clutch doesn’t hold up I’ll be looking for alternatives

Fitted Funk motorsport gold reflective heat tape(how much!!) on the intake pipe. Watched the YouTube video for some tips after only giving myself a 7/10 previously when doing the pipe over the block.
What a poxy job for someone with sausage fingers and little patience:flushed:
Anyway after all that I’ll give myself a…..6/10 haha. Nah it’s not that bad actually. Looks good from a distance. Scientifically proven to lower intake temps:think: sceptical but worth a shit and I like the Max Power bling

Bedford 25/10
Decided to drive to track on AR1’s and it proved a good choice as a dry day ensued which was a result.
Met up with @EthanMenace @burrellbloke & @Helpimonfire in the garages and had a natter before sighting laps. Both their Clios were looking great. Some nice cars were present so was set to be a good day.
First stint was used as a test really to see how the new Garrett compared to the old 250 meg turbo. So so different in how they drive. New turbo wants to be really revved out. So much quicker and is a bit of a handful. No more planting the right foot out of slow corners and driving away. Much more driver input needed on the throttle. Loved it. Car pulls like mad all the way to 7200rpm. Who needs n/a lol
Came back in to let car cool down and had a peak under the bonnet to have a look and saw the turbo was glowing hot still:thumb:

Took ethanmenace out next and didn’t hold back haha. Think he enjoyed his passenger ride. Absolutely hammered the car for 15mins and oil temps only reached about 112° and water about 100° which is fantastic compared to previous days. Seems all the work done after last track day has paid off. Air temps were much lower though so might still be a struggle in high summer but that’s for another day.
Passenger rides for Gav and Martin later on in the day. I think they were ok. We passed pretty much everything that was in front. Car was performing great.
Started to feel a bit rough about 3:30 with a headache so cut short the day a bit. Had splurged £100 on v-power so had done plenty of laps on what is a very thirsty curcuit.
All in all a great day. Donington next with a few more of you forum guys. Adds a little bit extra to a trackday seeing a few more nice Clios and some friendly familiar faces. Hopefully this trend continues and maybe even some more people will join in the craic in future.
No official pics from trackobsession atm which is a bit slow but they are a great tdo and will look to book my days with them going forward. I’ll put a few up here and on social media if there’s any decent ones.

Good to see you still out using it Ben. I know you're a fan of the cooler winter track days!
See how the temps cope in the summer with higher ambient but it seems like a step in the right direction!
