197: belt changes, good price?

I'm going to get parts off twingo off here, and i then my renault specialist is going to charge £120 for fitting, apparently 5-6hours work i think Roy said to me. So roughly £250 for everything which i think is damn good!

wow, 120 for say 6 hours work = 20 an hour, that seems damn cheap to me. About 700 supplied and fitted is considered a good price down here (albeit for a 1*2 though I doubt there's much difference - none of the 197's down here would be old enough to require this yet).

dont forget some prices on here are from "mates" so it will be going in the back pocket...no tax being paid etc

also worth noting that qualified experts....dont come cheap so if you want your car repairing/servicing it costs - why do people expect top quality work for back street labour charges :worried:

you do get a good warranty with dealer repairs that must be considered!

i could do belt changes and charge silly money...but it aint worth it for me these days at the moment done plenty of jobs on the side for dirt cheap prices and to be honest you get taken advantage of!!!

I'd rather set fire to my 197 than send it to Northwest performance. Ryan isnt even qualified. Self taught and it shows. They are cheap for a reason....... Have a look round Clio Trophy and CS, and you'll soon find the stories. www.birchdown.co.uk, or BTM is where i'd be looking

It's the same with all garages Gaz, I've seen K-Tec getting flamed before too. It's the curse of internet forums, people will post about bad experiences more often than good ones. A quick search on ClioTrophy gives as many positive results, maybe more, than negative ones. Can't search on CS as I'm not a member and without going too far off topic I've not heard great things about that site (CS) as a whole anyway so I wouldn't be inlcined to take much notice of anything that was on there...

I'll let them do my service as they're local and seem like decent lads, obviously if I'm not happy with them then I won't be going back for the belt change!!!

Its not flaming when you see some of the **** ups. Most ktec problems comes from engine mods, poor goods. NW manage to **** up cambelt changing with relative ease.....? Why take the risk? Not worth it imo

K-Tec also have history of a Clio V6 engine going bang after it'd been in for a belt change. Albiet I think that turned out to be faulty parts in the end like you said, but still, the immediate aftermath was that somebody had had a cambelt done at K-Tec and their engine had died. I'll ask the NW lads on Tuesday when I'm there what problems they've had and see what they say.

that's really cheap. Parts can't be OEM for that price and I want to go OEM as I've got 4 years warrenty on mine that I don't want to doss up due to going for cheap parts.

Not a member on CS mate, can't see the links.

Hahaha, no probably not but it'll be interesting to see what they do say!!!

*EDIT*

One of the many good reports on ClioTrophy; http://cliotrophy.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9379&p=82228&hilit=Northwest+Cambelt#p82228

I've only spoken to the NW guys on the phone so far so I'm not sticking up for them or anything, just highlighting that there's also many good reviews.

you forgot this one

Northwest performance have just given me a qiote of £400 for belts and service inc plugs.

I thinks thats pretty damn good if they do a proper job.

That's a fine price!!!

They've plenty of good feedback mate, yes they do have some bad but so does every garage I suppose...

One of the lads who had a problem didn't take his car back there to give them the chance to rectify it. I'm there tomorrow so I'll pick their brains.

Slightly OT, but talking about feedback for garages; The TOP Focus ST/RS (Profile Automotive, see this months EVO for more information) builder in the UK have just phoned me asking why my car isn't there for it's service (it was due there this dinnertime) after I spent 7 weeks and 16 phonecalls trying to get them to give me a price. And they didn't call me back once. I'd say that's p!ss poor customer service, but plenty of people will give them good reviews too.

Each to their own, but if i had bought a car that NWP had done a belt change on, it would be straight to Birchdown/BTM for a THOROUGH check over............
