Ball joints & Guards (?)

Got my clutch done about 1/2 weeks ago and when collecting, the guy said something a ball joint being damaged and a few guards damaged and I need to get it sorted before MOT, luckily it's due the end of next year however I know some prices on these ball joints are ridiculously priced. I'm based in Scotland and I refuse to pay anything ridiculous so would like some massive help here, anyone know anywhere based in Scotland/North England that would fix it? I'm not sure if he meant it needs repaired or replaced but as I said, refusing to pay a lot of money.

Anyone help me out here?

First of all you need to know which joint's he was referring too as there are 4 or 5 at each front corner. As for 'guards' I really don't know what they will be meaning. Best to get it looked at by someone who understands the 197/200 suspension setup.

Secondly, how do you have an MOT that doesn't run out until the end of next year?

Just need to find a Renault specialist near Glasgow then haha!

I bought the car not that long ago with a fresh MOT on it, runs out next July (thought I remember it being later than that).
