Average Servicing cost?

Well the RS is now a whole year old & 7,500 miles it's time for her first service. So I rang the dealer the other day to get a quote on a service and their answer was "It will cost either £235, £240 or £250. Which I laughed and said can you not make up your mind, I think I'll get back to you get back to you.

Just wondering what price other people have paid for their first service? Usually the first service in my experience isn't as expensive as it's not a major service I was hoping to be paying £125-150 tbh which I can easily achieve at other places such as Revolution Motor Sport (my local performance parts dealer)

Also my friend owns a garage and said he'll do one for around £100 so cheap as chips!

But do I pay £100+ just to get a Renault stamp rather than another, would it put you off if you were buying a car that had been serviced by a performance shop or private garage, rather than a renault dealer?

Cheers

The servicing on my 200 is 12,000miles or 2 years?
Although I would just stick to a local garage but make sure they use Renault Parts such as oil and filter as if they don't use their parts then it can invalidate your warranty

I think it's best to have a renault stamp for the first couple of years, try a couple of other dealers but I think ~£200 sounds about right for the main dealer

I think the average for a interim service is around the £160 mark from memory.

For the 197 its the following:

Oil change
Oil filter
Pollen filter

So £240+ is taking the pi$$ a little.

Phoned up to book mine in and was told 12000 Miles or 2 years. Quoted me £199.99. When i went on to book a service through My Renault, it came back as £155. So I'm going for the 12000 Miles, when it comes around and booking it in via the web.

I charge £150 using all genuine parts

I don't stick to their intervals though. They only do the airfilter every 24k on a 200
Also worth doing the oil more regularly than recommended. 172/182's suffer from vvt pulleys degrading because of lack of regular oil changes, and cheap oil being used.

A stamp from a specialist carrys more respect than a main dealer amongst enthusiasts

^^^ agreed!

I halved the intervals on my 172 Cup so it's had some Rentech specialist TLC every 6k from new, and now at 130k+ it still runs like a dream.

My 200 will be getting exactly the same from Rentech (oil every 6k, brake fluid every 12k)...the thought of it being in the hands of a Renault dealership quite frankly fills me with absolute dread! No way would I want them to have the opportunity to royally f**k something up.

Harratts Wakefield are by far the best dealer I have used. As long as you book it through Adam who is the service manager you will be very satisfied with both the service and price.

i LOL'd Hard!

Whats that saying about being tarred with the same brush?

You'll find not all dealers are the same....and most people generally get put off by main dealers simply because they can't afford it.....

thats why you'll find massive discounts recently on timing belts and servicing etc.....
trying to get customers back into the dealers!

I've fixed more main dealer cock ups (mainly cambelt errors) than you'd think was possible

LOL hard at your determination that the majority avoid Renault dealers because they can't afford main dealer pricing!

The complete inconsistency of service is why I avoid them, 4 attempts they had to diagnose a writing loom fault when my 172 Cup was new, Rentech nailed it in about 30 minutes flat.

No special offers or reduced prices would get me back in a dealership, and my ownership experience and knowledge of others over the last 9 years would suggest that the majority of owners that avoid dealerships are exactly the same.

They do, I'm not talking about enthusiasts I'm talking about joe bloggs with his 5/6year old scenic who gets quoted stupid money for a cambelt and service. It's not surprising they stay away from the dealer network when it's £90 an hour labour.
I certainly couldn't afford it.

Agreed a lot of dealers are toss it's just finding the right one, customers even get annoyed just when they hear the problems that are wrong with their cars after an mot/service.

Although I'm not surprised about the the dealership hate tbh, I feel for the poor guy that wants rid of his 200 after having a new engine after 2.5k and then developing more problems after. I would have lost faith after they told me 2 RTE's would be fitting the engine. Not in a million years would that happen that's for sure!

72,000 mile service. Renault told me this could cost up to 1600 lol.

Sounds about right. For 5 year service, spark plugs, brake fluid, belts and water pump I was quoted over £1,200 and £1,400 by two Renault dealerships. :swear:

They then asked if I wanted to book it in! :w00t: I politely declined.

spark plugs are every 36000m only so if the belt is 5yrs and not 72k then the plugs dont need doing...

brake fluid is 4yrs on 197
