Almost lost my life today : (

Does not matter what age you are every 5 years you should have to take a refresher ?? I know I've gotten in to bad habits in 6 years god knows what I'll be like in another 30 or 40! :worried:

Glad your OK mate and the car can be repaired! Must have been a brown trouser moment!

There are 63 million people in the UK (2011 Census), 33 million people held a full driving license in 2005..

33 000 000/ 5 years = 6 600 000 refreshers a year
6 600 000/ 365 days = 18082 refreshers a day

Please bare in mind 1.74 million tests are taken a year (2010-11)
1 740 000/ 365 days = 4767 a day

I'm clearly bored but your amazing idea has kept me amused. Cheers!

I'm not too sure about retaking a test every 2 years but maybe some preventative actions should be put in place. I mean someone at 70-odd with night-blindness, delayed reactions and skewed thought process is a bit like me driving after 5 pints and that is certainly not allowed!

thats just who have one it isnt those that actually drive...

given the standard of who is on the roads these days something needs doing...not only that it could help with unemployment!!!

say 10yr intervals!

This almost happened to me last year, I was coming up to a T-junction and she came round the corner on the wrong side of the road, I stopped well before the old bint and she goes on to drive into a front garden panicking. Shook my head at her. They should re-sit their test at 60! I bet 90% fail.

The guy who hit me the othe week was in his late 40's and could quiet clearly not give a toss, as for the standard of his driving I shall remain silent

Just a quick update the rear axle is F@:< and the estimated repair costs so far is £5400.00 which is too near the value of the car so they are considering writing it off :worried:.

I have spoken to a renault specialist and a local body shop and they reckon they can do it for a lot less, so hopefully the insurance will accept the contract repair. I would much rather get the car fixed than buy another one.

I dont really know what to get plus I spent so much time on that car so fingers crossed that they can consider it.

I hate if it ought to come to it but maybe I should offer to top up some of the repair costs to bring the car back on to the road (even thought the accident wasnt my fault, but if they refuse then dont see another way around it).

if they write it off...buy it off them and then get it repaired - be plenty of megane back axles in scrappers!!!

Foxspeed, How does that work?

Is it in theory that they give what they think its worth and I give it back to them and assuming they give enough the extra will cover the repair costs?

they adjust the payout they give you and let you keep the car...

need to speak to your insurance to see if they would do it

should be a lot cheaper than £5400 to repair

looking good!!, its just a shame these dont have the F4RT underneath, surely some one has done it

Nice repair. Looking fresh! must have been a nightmare seeing the car coming towards you!! Well done for getting out of the way!!

Loving the debate on old people. Personally I think there should be a test for older drivers, yes there are bad young drivers, and yes there are bad middle aged drivers too. But, it's a fact of life that as you get older your reactions and general awareness (along with your other faculties, and eye sight, hearing etc) all get worse. This isn't problem for a 20 year old, hence nobody calling for periodic re-test for the young.

Personally I think anyone involved in an at-fault accident should probably have their driving abilities checked. Too many people have repeated accidents and are a danger. This way, everyone makes mistakes, but only the ABLE drivers get to stay on the road. This old dear that caused this thread probably still has her licence!
