95 or 98 ron fuel?

In the UK it's 99 RON!

It's 98RON here. The only 99RON over here is Tesco Momentum, everything else is 97 or 98 from memory.

I drove on 95 first tank.
Afterwards only 100 octane and the difference is noticeable.
Cold starts are a bit smoother and performance on hi-revs more persuasive..
..so I would go with the higher octane..
Difference on my previous GTI stage 1 was even bigger..!

I've used Tesco 99 in mine since I've had it but I got sick of all the retards in the Tesco. So I went to the Shell that's opened recently round the corner today and brimmed it with V-Power and it's like a different car.. So much smoother I was very very surprised.

you will be using the same as me the "old" total garage!

after reading through this thread i have just realised something that due to the shell station now being very close i have been putting vp in more than the tesco 99 and for the last 5/6 fill ups its had it in and the cold starts are a lot better!!!

Back when it was Optimax it was 98. I think the change coincided with the re-branding.
